I'm having a problem copying Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Disc 1 using Any DVD and DVD Shrink 3.2. Copying stops at 56% and then an error message comes up. I've tried using DVD X Copy Platinum with the same result. Disc 2 of the film is copied easily. Is there something wrong with the disk or is there a new form of copy-protect associated with this DVD?

My guess is that it is a bad disc.

I think so too. I'll get another original and post the result.

It was a bad disc. When I used another original it copied quite easily using AnyDVD and DVD Shrink.

Fear & Loathing -- the criterion collection --- has to be one of the best movies in the WORLD!! "we were somewhere around Barstow when the drugs began to take hold" Hunter S Thompson was a genius. R.I.P. glad to hear it was just a bad disc

Hi, I have bought the Gold Edition Fear. Installation went without a problem. Version is 1.08 (originaly in the box). My system is WinXP, Athlon 64 2G, 1GB Ram, ATI Radeon X1800 GTO, Directx 9c is installed and no problems found. I have the latest ATI driver installed.
But when I start the game the screen goes blank/black and the program freezes and does not start ( I am not even able to see the menu of the game). Does anybody know what the problem could be?

Hi All, sorry to bring up an old thread, but I am having serious problems backing up this movie. I have tried 2 different discs and both the same problem. AnyDVD and DVD decrypter won't get past 46/47%. Same with DVD Fab 4. AnyDVD is the newest version also. (I had no trouble backing up Saw 4 which some hard trouble with) I don't know what else to try, very frustrating. I am kind of a newbie to this whole thing and don't really understand a lot of the terminalogy used on many of these threads. So try to keep it simple for me, lol. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I backed up my first copy (the original FALILV, no criterion or gold or special or whatever) with dvd decrypter. I then bought the criterion 2 disc collection when it was released and backed that up with ripit4me.
Seeing this thread, I decided to bust out the original and the criterion again, and test em out for you. Both can be backed up with dvdFabPlatinum4.0.5.5... so if you can't get it with that... try ripit4me and hopefully you will be able to get it.
Cheers!

Thanks for the post but no luck with both ideas. Is it even possible that my disk and my buddies disk are both bad, at the exact same spot on both DVDs, I think not, I must be doing something wrong.

That is a little strange, that both drives choke at the same point with two diferent discs. However, if the discs were purchased from the same place, it is possible they got a batch of bad presses.
Are you having any other problems with your drive, like ripping/burning at lower speeds than usually?

I would try talking to your friend and check if you (or they) can try it on their computer. I don't know if that would make a difference, but it could be your computer strangely just not accepting the disc. I know that it's a long shot but try it on another computer and see if that helps at all... if it can be read, then at least you would have a copy.
What cyprus stated is correct, if they are from the same batch of discs, then they could both be bad... but the chances of that happening are slim to none if you and they both have copies...
Hope that helps a little!
Cheers!

I had my best success on discs that don't copy with anydvd and dvd decrypter by using ripit4me and using the wizard rather thatn the one-shot. Good luck.
