hi everyone! i'm backing up my dvds using smart ripper and flaskmpeg (divx codec), which works fine if the movies aren't too long. however, larger dvds will always be aborted somewhere during the process (i have enough free harddisk space, tho). the avi files produced have to be repaired (virtual dub does the job, the msg is "reconstructing missing index block", oh well) and still cannot be split properly because sometimes there are still images where there should be none, and these have done a neat job of spoiling my work on the already unfinished avi files. i've tried dvd2avi but it keeps displaying weird error msgs. tmpgenc was recommended to me, however, it installed itself in japanese and that don't change, no matter how hard i try. call me stupid. encoding the vob files one by one should work, but how, then, can i keep the subtitles in there? perhaps i have to work on this ifo thingy file, but how?! anyone?! ^_^ thanks in advance!!!

If you are looking for the simplest route, I would recommend either GordianKnot or Dr. Divx. Both should do the trick!
