HELP dvd drive ms25 to ms28

my kids 360 had h943 m/s 25. dvd died so me being genius i am thought i'd fix it for him. bought new dvd but f/w ms28. 360 not playing any games i put in old or 360. i dont think i could go through unplug everything on computer and plug xbox dvd in and reboot that way. in fact i doubt i'll ever be able to open the 360 up again. it almost went out the window last time. someone please tell me there is a way to just plug it in and update the firmware from 25 to 28. or tell me a good way to destoy 360 in a satisfying way

Did you extract the drive key from the old drive and inject it into the new drive?

no this came without instructions. just swapped new with old

You can't just swap drives. Each drive is "married" to the motherboard. They share a common key... a type of serial number programmed into the firmware. That key has to be extracted from the old drive so you can use it in the new drive.
