Identification dilamma

After I have finshed using DVD Shrink to back-up my copy, Is there anyway to print a title on to the disc. Not a picture, no colours , just some simple black writing that would state, what's on it. I have been using the TY white inkjet pintable to hub disc. And my wife is fallen way behind in writing on them with magic marker. My penmanship is very poor, Some type of simple printer, small, cheap and easy to use would solve my problems.

Hi, I've got your same problem. I use a Casio CW-75 thermal printer that prints black lettering using their thermal transfer ribbon onto the shiny silver surface( works ok on the inkjet white surfaces).I print the title of the disc prior to burning as stated in the Casio's directions. I think Office Depot ( or can be found online) has it. Hope this helps.

try finding a epson cd/dvd printer you can print a full picture or even just a small title ( EPSON STYLUS R 320) or later, comes with the software so u can just print the title or whatever you chose works great for me

Thanks for your reply. I have several hundred TV shows already on Disc. So a thermal printer that requires you to lable before you burn , just won't work for me.

Thanks for your reply. I already have a full size printer that does everything but disc. I need something small and cheap for what little I will need it to do. Under $100.00.

It is not a requirement, just a BIG suggestion as being a thermal titler, the thermal process MIGHT injure the recorded data.As a side note, this dummie here (me) didn't read the directions of the titler (as usual) and titled after burning (I use Taiyo Yudens), so far no probs,but I'm not telling you to do the same. Just sharing my expierences.BTW got the Casio titler for $80 USD

Would anyone know the cost of the ribon for the CW75 and how long they would last?
Has anyone familar with this device ever had a bad experience adding a label after the disc was burned? If not, this things might just be the ticket.

Hi Rick, now you hit a sore point with me when you asked how much for the ribbons and how long will the y last. The lousy good for nothing @#$%^$@#%^&& ribbons usually cost about $10 at Office Depot and have a rated life of 40 imprints.I cheat as the machine is DESIGNED to WASTE the ribbon. So after each imprint, I re wind the unused part till only the used parts shows. My method I get about 80 imprints.BTW best to use the black ribbon as the other colors never seem to work right.

Would the ribbon be about 2" wide so you could put 3 or more lines of words on one section or are you using ribbon for each line you write?
Eg
Startrek
season 2
2.3
2.4
So could I put this on about 80 different disc using your method of rewinding the ribbon?

Sorry, the ribbon is only about 1 inch wide, but the titler can be set to 2 or 3 lines print and can get about depending on how you set it about 24 characters per line. Total printed size is 1x2.5 inches

One section of ribbon for 1 titling per disc and one cartridge I can use on about 80 different discs.

Never mind, u mean the Epson R-200 As far as I see it, I've never had great luck with the inkjet white dvds, my best luck was with the shiny dvds (that is burning them) I know that they say the discs are the same except for the inkjet face, but IMHO I don't think so. No, I would stick with the Casio with what I know. Besides 99% of my discs are the shiny ones.

Ok maybe you can't get the Epson R-200 anymore but the there is a epson printer available for around $100 that can do DVDs. Only this is it also is a full size printer and does everything else as well. I was looking for something small like you have, though it seems that the Epson printer would give you more control and cost allot less to use per disc. When you think of the cost of a disc is about 38 cents then your shelling out another 25-30 cents to print a title on it, well you start thinking that mayme the printer is the way to go.

You are probably right, as to me I've alredy got my disc titler and until it breaks I'm not going to change anything. BTW $10/80 imprints comes to about 12.5 cents a print ( ribbon cost that is)
