Umh, there isn't such thing as 2.3GHz P3. And look harder, I don't use commas in the sentence you're referring to. And writing using CAPS only is prohibited in our rules -- which you, and everybody else, has to read before posting to our forums.
And to get back to your question -- TMPGEnc is, in terms ofquality/speed, one of the fastest encoders. And really, you can't make it run faster without sacrificing the quality. Only faster encoder, which produces good quality, is CCE SP. And if you have lots of dough, like you wanted to tell me, this is pretty ideal -- software costs $1,995.

Heck. I have a 1.46G Athlon XP, two CD-R drives, DVD-ROM, Plextor CD-ROM, Epson printer, HP scanner, 21" Nokia CRT monitor, 10Mbit Long Reach Ethernet Internet connection, 512MB of PC266 DDR memory, 260GB of hard-disk space, a floppy drive, two ethernet cards, ultra-wide SCSI-card, RAID controller, three laptops with bluetooth connection, another desktop computer for video capturing, two http/pop3/imap/print/database servers (my email is root.nospam@tazty.com), Zyxel Prestige router, HP LaserJet printer, two digital cameras, USB CF/SM-card reader, Wacom tablet, Keytronic ergoforce -keyboard, Microsoft IntelliEye Explorer -mouse, two cellular phones, 1500 CD-R discs, TV, DVD-player, Yamaha DSP-series amp, home teather setup, MP3 discman, PS2, Dreamcast, PS1, hundreds of DVDs, a collection of handheld games, Atari Lynx, Gameboy Color, a Gibson Les Paul clone, Marshall guitar amp and still..
STILL the bloody TMPGEnc takes hours to encode a two hour movie. Damn.. Maybe I really _should_ consider a faster CPU, whatcha think?
Geez.. It's raining NUTS nowadays.

OK, me thinks I got y'all beat. (more on Tmpgenc below)
No lie: (and yes, I abbrev. funny)
(8) 500mhz p3 gateways, (1) 900m Compaq, 1 300m compaq, 1 800m Hp lapper, (1) 1.1 hp lapper, (1) 1.7G home built p4 mother, (1) 1.63G 1G RAM homebuilt mother with 120gig IDE main drive (1) SCSI 80 gig secondary (for rips) and another 120gig tertiary IDE for overflow (all nearly the same on the 1.7), 2homebuilt 1800+ athelons with(2) 120gig IDEs and (2) 40gig SCSI's respectively, too many DVD drives to list, way too many cdr-rws to list, dazzle captures etc., ATI, Nivda, Diamond, and a host of other vids cards for playing and capture, 4 imacs (at various configs and speeds), 1 G4, and the list goes on..... and this is for HOME.
Work is where 'da big fun stuff is... but we won't get into that...
As for TMPGEnc.... What can I say? It is slow. You want fast? Get the fastest CPU, get the fastest SCSI........... and buy a dedicated encoder...yea, I know... $$$$....(but you gotta PAY to play in the BIG boy arena). Other than that fork over the $$$$ for the software like the other responder said.
But seriously, fastest-cheapest-ok quality -if all you want is an ok-fast-copy of the darn thing is this:
1.Smartrip (free!)
2.Mediator (free!)the vobs @ MPEG-4 v.2 at about 7 keys, and defaults on crisp and data rate. Set 'da audio at 24 bit/12 stereo.... wait (about) a 1:1 ratio of the movie time length.
3. AVI chop (free!) the mediated file (in about 1/2... maybe 3 parts... you want under +/- 500 megs)
4. Nero (about $60 w/o the MPEG-2 plugin) burn and burn either a VCD or SVCD.....
Takes about 3hours total for a 2 hour movie for all....If you want to gimper about in the mediocrate.... the fastest- absoulute fastest way to get a dvd is to buy the darn thing!
Peace, freedom for da' net, and I'm outta here...
