yes. the hitachi 79 drive is the hardest right now as you have to chip it before you can flash it.

Is there an ID number you can look for on the box?
Or will it say on the box wich type of drive is inside?

you can narrow it down by looking at the lot number or team ID i believe. theres a site that has a list of all the drives with the proper ID tags, just google it and im sure the site will pop up for ya.

I looked at that site, there was a link in the how to mod your 360 thread
it confuses me though, especially since I am in Canada and am buying from EB games...and have yet to see anything bought from EB on that site.

im not sure if it really matters what store its from as a store cannot say we want to sell only samsung drives, or hitachi drives. as long as the numbers match whats on the site, it 'should' be that drive.

Okay, but I should be looking under the LOT column on the site right?

personaly i think the hitachi models are easier to flash as long as you dont get the new one. with the samsung you have to format the disc boot into dos, get the key, boot into windows, hack the key, boot into dos, flash the drive. with the hitachi all you have to do is put the drive in mode b, boot into windows and click 3 buttons and your done basically. a lot quicker and easier.

well with the newest model you have to chip it before you can even flash it. thats the main diffence. other than that its the same.
