Decrypter vs DvdShrink

I'm slowly copying all my movies to an external HD so I can bring it to work when I'm doing double shift.
I'm using WinXP, Ripit4Me,Decrypter and finally DVDShrink.
Question is, when Ripit4me, rips it to a seperate folder using Decrypter, I then need another folder for DVDShrink.
Should I delete the Decrypter folder to save space on my External HD?
Dshrink seems uses less space.
Also, I'll be connecting this external HD via USB to our work slimpc...which of course MS Media player-disabled by IT.
Is there a USB portable thumbdrive/flash app so I can play my movies?

If I were your employer, I would be wondering why you are bringing movies to work. That said, you will save little space by deleting that program. Good luck on your other quest.

I work in a factory that builds clocks---all kinds of time clocks. Mine is Quality Control. I watch/calibrate punch-in clock making sure its syncronized to the Atomic clock. So I do a lot of watching the clock. When I retire,my boss and good friend will switch to digital.
I do it sometimes 16-18 hrs shift during the holidays.
Its depressing---sometimes insane to hear clocks tick tock for 16-20hrs a day. No other staff usually do what I do, and my employer recognize that and allows these "minor distractions."
They usually allow me to bring my laptop to watch movies, but at 52 yrs young,I can't carry stuff anymore---12lbs laptop vs 2 lbs external harddrive and a flash drive seems to be a nice trade off.
If I don't bring movies, they come to house and watch and take up couch space---tolerable since they bring beer and chinese food.
Back on topic.
In theory I will be saving half of my HD by deleting the decrypter folder and keeping the dshrink folder. I just wonder the consequence if i do delete the decrypter folder.

1. If your IT has WMP disabled, its a good chance you wont be able to open external applications off your thumb drive.
2. That being said, after its been through Shrink, no need to keep the older, bigger original file.
3. If putting files to portable Hard drive for viewing on a computer I suggest looking into Auto GK http://www.autogk.me.uk/. It turns your DVD files into *Divx or*Xvid (*AVI) and there is an official Divx player you could open off your hard drive or thumb drive.

If you're such good friends with the boss, then get his tech man to enable your pc to play the movies with wmp.
And yes you don't need the Decrypter files after Shrink works it's magic.

---I use my U3 to surf with portable Opera...I can play my mp3s from thumbdrive...only thing is the movie...something about codec not available.

Glad to help, DvdShrink is pretty good for bringing a movie files down to the size of a regular DVD, but most websites use a type of that .AVI codec because it shrinks the video down about 1/4 the size of shrink. You'll have even more room on hard drive to take movies into work!

just passing by, and to thrown my 5pence in, the easiest way by far (as long as your work pc has a cd-drive, doesn't even have to be a dvd-rom drive) is to take in to work a Linux 'live-cd' of some description (there's many varieties to choose from) then you can reboot the pc with the live-cd and everything runs off the cd, hard drive isn't touched, no viruses or hassles whatsoever, then watch the movies thru one of the linux media players, job done :)

What's the betting that if the system is locked down with respect to installing codecs and programs then the bios is set to network boot/hdd only and passworded?

Creaky---I totally forgot that option, silly actually, being its one of the two things about LINUX I know (the other being I know nothing :) )
Seriously though, that sounds better than the idea I was steering towards.
I looked into it and the DivX player I mentioned is a program that doesnt simply run off thumb drive, it has its hooks in the "Add/ Remove Programs" utility so there is a roadblock with my idea.\
Varnul--- you beat my response and what I said didnt make sense responding to you so I edited for clarity. You are right by the way, I didnt think of that either when the original poster said he could already play music and browse the web. Those things are much different than booting a different OS.

good point, i'm making the assumption that the IT guy has been a little lax. Even our firm only deals with blocking cd/dvd drive access by physically taking out the optical drives when they provision machines, you only get a drive if you can prove you need it (sad but true)

thanks for all the concern...I tried VLC portable and it did play The Office Season 2 disc...
...now another problem:
I ripped a few movies :whistle: in a SATA drive that I haven't used since last year.
So I ripped the movies into the SATA HD via SATA connection.
But when I installed the SATA to my Antec MX-100 USB enclosure, as an external HD, the PC recognizes it as a USB Mass storage...but does not show in My Computer (my personal laptop)as a drive.
Which means I cannot access my movies from this external HD.
Am I missing a step here?
