SwapMagic used to work fine but doesn't anymore

I was using SwapMagic 3.6 and have the flip-top add-ons installed on my slim PS2 for about 2 years now. It worked well for about a year, then I noticed backups would take longer during load times (both in the beginning at the SwapMagic startup screen and during gameplay). And the problem has gotten progressively worse.

It also seemed like the longer the machine was on, the worse the loading times got, and it would usually get so bad that the game would just freeze at a load screen. This would happen with all types of backup games, games that used to work just fine right after I started using SwapMagic, so it wasn't the burning method.

This appears to be only with DVD PS2 backups, I just tried the SwapMagic 3.6 PS2 CD boot disk and CD games work fine. Could an old, slightly scratched DVD boot disk just cause games to boot slowly and eventually freeze? Is it time to invest in a new disk then?

So everything besides backup DVDs work fine?

Hmm, I would suggest playing with the laser, but if everything is fine then I don't see why you should need too. Only thing I can think of is that your SM disk has been damaged some how, don't quote me on that, though.

Its odd that the SM disk can load "badly" or something and mess up loading the whole game after. I guess I figured it was all or nothing with those.

At any rate I think thats what my problem is. Now I just have to figure out what I messed with that suddenly made discs stop spinning at all. :/
