What firmware version do you have on the PSP?

Check this by going to System Settings then System Information and tell us what it says under system software.

You will need an unpatched copy of grand theft auto: Liberty City Stories or a pandora/universal unbricker

You have a few options.

Option 1) update the PSP to 3.03 official firmware and downgrade to 1.50 using an unpatched copy of GTA Liberty City Stories (The unpatched version has the 2.0 update on the disc)

Go HERE and follow the -2.81 - 3.03 Any Motherboard guide if you want to use this method.

Option 2) Update to 3.50 firmware and downgrade to 1.50 using an unpatched version of Lumines. Go HERE and follow the guide under -3.10 - 3.50 Any Motherboard if you want to use this method.

Option 3) use a Pandora battery + Magic Memory Stick to downgrade/install custom firmware to the PSP.

If you know someone that already has a PSP that has custom firmware installed and you can borrow the PSP go HERE and follow this guide which will walk you through creating a Magic Memory Stick + Pandora Battery.

If you don't know anyone or have access to a Custom Firmware PSP then you can use a Easy Installer to install the magic memory Stick files and hardmod the battery into service mode.

Go HERE for the easy installer. Download and extract it then start the easy installer by executing the START icon. Follow the DOS on screen instructions and when it gets to the part that ask what type of Magic Memory Stick you want to create select Option 4 Universal Unbricker V3.

After you create the magic memory stick go HERE and hardmod the battery into service mode. This is a Hardmod that has you solder a wire between 2 points. Make sure you use the FAT Battery Image when making the wire install.

After you solder the wire in the correct place you can now place the Magic Memory Stick into the PSP then add the hardmoded battery. This will bring up a menu for you to install 3.71 M33 to the PSP (press X to install 3.71 M33).

After you have done 1 of the options above let me know and I will help you from there.
