My PS2 worked perfectly fine online, for about a year until my fan broke, so I hardwired a 12v fan to the 5v spot on the motherboard and then my network adapter suddenly stopped working. I just recieved a new V7 motherboard in the mail yesterday and as soon as I installed it, and went to test an online game, I get the "Could not connect to the external network device" error.
I have been struggling with this PS2 for almost a year, trying to solve this network error that I am getting. I have also already tried replacing my network adapter but both of them are giving me the same problem. The only thing that I haven't replaced is the power supply, which I had wired the 12v fan to in order to keep the PS2 from overheating.
I really don't know what to do here, and I really don't want to buy a slim PS2 because they are even harder to mod than the old fat PS2's, which I will be doing as soon as I get this network error fixed.
So does anybody have any ideas that could possibly help me? I have replaced all of the components in the PS2 which I thought could be causing the problem, except the power supply. I received word from another person that the power supply wouldn't be the problem unless the PS2 wasn't powering on.
I am stuck here, because it seems that replacing all of the components that would likely cause the network adapter to stop working, isn't helping. I know my DSL modem isn't bad because it worked fine for a full year beforehand, and I also replaced my modem just to make sure that wasn't the problem, but no avail.
Could it be that my old motherboard, which I had foolishly soldered a 12v fan to the 5v spot caused an unnecessary amount of power to go to the network adapter, and had caused both of my PS2 network adapters fry, before I had the chance to try out the new motherboard? If that is the case then all I will need is a third network adapter, and all of my problems will be fixed.
If anybody takes the time read this, and says anything to try and help me, it would be greatly appreciated.
