Hi, i just bought a new computer with vista on it and it has a 400gig(362)GB HD. Well, everyday, i keep losing a gigabyte of space or more for no reason, i have not really downloaded anything. Yesterday i had 299 Gigs of free space left, now i have 294?/ I had not download nothing! i went and highlighted all the files in the root folder(including hidden files) and it all became 18.8 gigs! but i should still have 342 gigs left. Where is all my hard drive space going?

Have you tried removing your HDD?.. I cannot explain this, maybe your browser or a program is downloading something without you knowing , check your Temp files, cookies and all the internet files. Let me know how you get on

Hey stilts, a while ago I was wondering the same thing about my computer too. Vista has this thing called Restore Points, which are basically there to restore you system back to normal if your computer gets shafted. I remember reading that they can use up to 15% of the disk that they are creating the points on. At one stage they were using 20 gig on my hd. If you wanna check it out go Control Pannel > System and Maintainence > Backup and Restore Centre and you can fiddle with it in there (or Control Pannel > Backup and Restore Centre if you have it on Classic View). I turned mine off, but I'm not suggesting you do that. It's up to you. Hope this helps, Tristan.
