I do not have a alot of tech experience so I will do my best trying to explain my problem.
I purchased a DVD burner a year or two ago and started burning backups of movies, didn't have an issue, probably burned 80-100 DVD's. Then I noticed a slow down in the process and was told by a friend that I needed DVD Decrypter, that worked breifly. Then kept getting cyclic redundency errors and thought there might be some issues with some other software on my computer. I cleaned out the PC thoroughly before trying to burn again. I installed the latest DVD shrink and am able to burn now but the back up takes 3-4 hours.
Anybody have any ideas how to fix?

First, make sure that all of your drives are set to operate in DMA mode, if they're in PIO mode, it's going to be a slooooow process.
Here are some guides on doing that (XP):

or

DVDshrink and DVD decrypter are outdated and can produce such an error, the other possibility is a dirty/smudged disk or a badly scratched one (just some possible causes). Instead of ripping with DVDshrink or DVD Decrypter, try using DVDFab HD Decrypter (it's free), you can get it here http://www.dvdfab.com/mlink/download.php?g=HDDECRYPTER
Once DVDFab is done ripping to the hard drive, you can then open the files using shrink (open files tab or open disk image for .iso files) and use it as you normally would.
Here are some great guides to help you with the process if needed
http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/Guides.htm
Now, if the disk is dirty, try cleaning it and retry backing it up, if it appears scratched, it's best to exchange it for another.
Cheers:)

Thanks johnl
I appreciate it,
I had them already set in DMA mode.
I also found from another post that with your task manager you can adjust the priority of you DVDShrink and that will also affect it.

Giving shrink a higher priority using task manager might speed it up a bit, but it's not really solving your problem and giving you a reason as to why this is happening (it may also cause other problems when priority levels are changed this way).
Make sure your PC hasn't caught anything that may be using up CPU cycles, run an antivirus or antispyware app and see if anything turns up. Also, in shrink's preferences (I believe) you can set the priority level for shrink when it's transcoding, make sure it's not set up run in low priority there.

@johnl123-
I thought you might want to know that the RI4M site is gone, which I'm sure you already knew, but if you want to update your sig there are a couple of locations to download it. Here is one of them: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/RipIt4Me
Also dvdidle.com has changed. It is now http://dvdfab.com/free.htm Your link will still take you there, but if you want to make a change to your sig I thought I would let you know.
@Logethan
DVD Decrypter is a good program but you have to tinker with it quite a bit to get it to work correctly. You could be getting file structure problems when processing the file through Shrink. Maybe download the DVDFab HD Decrypter that I mentioned above, and is in both mine and johnl123 sigs. It is a free program that will rip the file to the HDD for you. Then see if Shrink is still giving you the same problem.
You could also download another free program called VobBlanker to process the files before they go to Shrink. http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/vobblanker.htm
I will also include a guide on using it. It may seem a little difficult at first, but after you do a couple of movies you will think it is a piece of cake!! My buddy alkohol wrote this guide: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm?id=1481
Let us know if that does not solve the problem.

Not a problem johnl123! I had someone remind me about it as well! Like you, I also get lazy or don't pay enough attention to detail! Such is life :)

Once again thanks for your help guys. I just burned a backup, didn't take that long, once I really get the hang of it, it shouldn't be too much trouble.
