I have a freshly flashed Xbox 360. I just got ahold of Call of Duty 4 (original game). When it reads the disc it says that an update needs to be applied in order to play the game.

Is it okay to peform this update on a modded xbox 360?

yes, it is. Read the other threads dude, so many people ask this. i wish the mods would sticky it sayingit's safe to update a game.
