The only way to extract the second layer Layer 1 in Apache 2 is to create an .iso file. You have to open up your .iso file in Apache 2,then right click at the very top of the .iso in Apache 2 where it says switch to second layer. Then you can access the PART2.pak file, easier said than done for some peeps.I am currently still working on the solution of downsizing the files, but have the full game connected in a .PAK file renamed to PART1.pak.The total size is 7.93Gig in size.I am going to downsize some movies so the size will fit for Swap Magic peeps. Then I will reconstruct the whole .iso again in Sony Cd/Dvd Rom Generator with the file list from the first layer Layer 0.I hope this solution works, and give it some time alright. It takes awhile to extract and downsize the videos alright. As for Sonix and the tool he made,I am not sure if it works or not but I do have the tool.Still it would be nice to figure out the solution to this kind of protection, which is what I am shooting for.I am still extracting all the video files from the already joined .PAK file,it takes a long time to extract all the vids, and then downsize and place back in the proper location.I am not sure when I will be done,I am guessing probably 2 days maybe 3 but it really depends.Another thing when you join the 2 .PAK files, you still have the full game in one file. The videos can then be adjusted to fit for Swap Magic.

Extract both layers of the dvd9 into the same directory.
Run the tool click browse, select the GODOFWAR.TOC file and click extract button.
Sit back and wait....
Once all files have been extracted you may notice that the total size of files extracted is smaller than the two large files, this is because there are many dupes inside the large files.
To make a working dvd5 backup, delete all files with the extension *.PSW and delete all the BONUS*.PSS files too. That should leave you with a folder size of about 3.5GIG.
Run the tool again, select the GODOFWAR.TOC file and click rebuild button.
Sit back and wait...
After a while the relink screen will popup, first, click the 'Auto-Relink Dupes' button and that will take care of most of the relinking.. the rest of relinking needs to be done manually. Relink all the *.PSW files to their *.PSS counterparts, e.g.
relink A01P01.PSW to A01P01.PSS. Relink all the missing BONUS*.PSS files to any available PSS file you want.
Once all files are relinked you can close the tool.

You will now have 2 new files in the game folder:
GODOFWAR.TOC_NEW
PART1.PAK_NEW

Delete the original PART1.PAK, PART2.PAK and GODOFWAR.TOC files and rename the new files to remove the _NEW from their names. Delete the 'Extracted' folder.
Build the new iso in the usual way, burn and play this awsome game!

P.S. No files need patching for dvd9 checks.

Whats up with SANITY.TXT?

SANITY TEST
The rest of this file is just space filler. Maybe we should put some super secret info here?

We may have a solution to our problem here my fellow gamers all we need now is a conformation. Also if it does work we need more detailed and easier instructions way to confusing.

Jizmak, with your method, GoW freezes at the "Sony Computer Entertainment America Presents" screen. I'm using HDLoader btw. Do you know what could be wrong?

All the Credit goes to SONIX his website is:
http://www.backuptools.co.uk/

I can confirm the method works.
IT DOES NOT WORK ON THE HDD.
Im not sure why but was posted on PS2nfo.com
as not working on the hd (POSTED BY SONIX).

I can confirm that it works with swap magic 3.3
and does not freeze up at stage 4.
However all bonus movies will be removed.

You have to use apache 2 to extract both layers.
The files must be placed together and fully
extracted (not in .iso form).

Iso-buster will not work as it wont extract the
second layer.

A complete .iso of 7.97gb is what you need to
extract both layers.

Ok.. Pardon me for being an idiot, but Sonix states in his instructions that once you are done linking The files and have all the files you need for the ISO in the directory, you create the ISO in the "usual way"

Ok. Since I've never created a PS2 ISO from mere files, what is the "usual way"??

part1.pak
god of war.toc

I have no clue how to make these into a burnable .iso

Hey Jizmak that is where the downsizing of the videos comes in,meaning it might be possible to keep everything. The videos will probably look kinda bad only for some, but still it will be the full game ;).Nothing ripped, besides quality of some of the video files is what I am working on.I came up with a 7.93Gig file though when I joined the 2 .PAK files together. You have to consider the rest of the files on the first layer though besides the .PAK files which will make up the rest of the game.Hells yeah that is very good news to hear, this method I am working on is sure to work now that I look at it.

a) OPEN CDVDGEN.
b) SELECT ?CREATE NEW PROJECT? AND THEN SELECT ?DVD-ROM
MASTER DISC?. DRAG CDVDGEN TO THE LEFT SIDE OF YOUR
SCREEN.
c) NAVIGATE TO THE FOLDER THAT YOU CREATED ON YOUR HARD
DRIVE BACK IN STEP 2 AND OPEN IT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR SCREEN.
d) SET THE WIDTH OF THAT WINDOW SO THAT IT IS ONLY 1 FILE WIDE. THIS WILL PLACE THE FILES INTO THE SAME ORDER AS THEY WERE ON THE GAME DISK BUT YOU SHOULD CHECK THEM FOR CORRECT ORDER JUST IN CASE.
e) CLICK ON EDIT > SELECT ALL.
f) DRAG ALL THE FILES INTO THE RIGHT SIDE OF CDVDGEN.
g) LOOK FOR A SLUS OR SLES FILE AND WRITE DOWN THE FULL NAME AND THEN CLICK ON THE ?VOLUME? TAB IN CDVDGEN.
h)TYPE SLUS OR SLES (WHICHEVER YOUR FILE NAME IS) INTO THE 1ST BOX NEAR "DISC NAME"
i) TYPE ALL OF THE NUMBERS FROM YOUR FILE NAME, WITHOUT THE PERIOD, INTO THE 2ND BOX.
j) TYPE PLAYSTATION FOR THE PRODUCER NAME AND SELECT THE APPROPRIATE LICENSE AREA.
k)CLICK ON "REC...".
l)SELECT YOUR DESIRED STORAGE LOCATION AND NAME THE FILE gow.IML
m)YOU WILL GET 2 ERRORS, JUST CLICK OK FOR BOTH.
(If you get one error message, then you have to download ?WNASPI32.DLL? www.nero.com/us/WNASPI32.DLL.html
and put it in your windows system 32 folder.
n)THE RECORDING SCREEN WILL POP UP, CLICK ON FILE > EXPORT IMAGE AND SAVE IT ON ONE OF YOUR HARD DRIVES (NOT IN A FOLDER) NAME IT gow.LST
o) WHEN IT'S FINISHED, YOU WILL HAVE 4 FILES NAMED gow.000 gow.001 gow.oo2 gow.003.

I hope it works bro!!!!!

I have 2 copies the one that froze at level 4 and
the new sonix one.
The only thing removed was the bonus features.
i should be able to save the game and then
access the bonus movies from the disk that
keeps freezing at level 4.
(so i dont lose nothing)
This game was a pain...but surely worth it.

There are two links that currently source the Apache 2 file that are reasonable, and you don't have to wait 5 days to access like PS2nfo b!0tches or even need to use them. The links are http://www.alucard.cc and http://www.backuptools.co.uk these two sites will give you access to the program Apache 2.

hey jiz, i came across a little discrepency in the instructions.

when i went to relink the files together i never had any bonus psw files, so i linked them all except i was left like about 10 bonus pss files.

should i give it a retry and see it the psw files show up next time or what? plus i ran out of blank dvd's so i cant try to play it till tomorrow.

it was different in the beginning too because there were no psw files to delete when i did the extraction of the toc file. but even after only deleting the pss files, the folder size was about 3.45 which was exactly what it was supposed to be.

(edit)

or wait, is that why you said we lose the bonus features?

You have to use apache 2 to extract both layers.

(you will also need cd/dvdgen)
Iso-buster will not work as it wont extract the

A complete .iso of 7.97gb is what you need to
extract both layers.

Extract both layers of the dvd9 into the same directory.

You are looking for 16 files 7.97 gb
(make sure you got pak2 file from layer 1 and

Run the tool click browse, select the GODOFWAR.TOC file and click extract button.
