Will playing back-ups weaken laser ?

will playing backed up games weaken the laser and possibly render it useless?

i am not sure if i can agree 100% on that. maybe it will in the long run weaken your laser but it will also weaken playing originals. i have had my system for about a year and half and my console still plays my backups fine. maybe use higher quality discs and you will be good to go. but either way playing anything in your dvd drive is regular wear and tear, but i truely don't think you will have to worry.

This is all true and I could have explained it the same as you did... but he asked for a "simple yes or no". So I kept it simple.

Even if it wears out the laser in 2 years compared to 3-4 on originals, how much does a replacement laser cost (or even a complete replacement disk drive)? How much does a replacement original Xbox 360 disk cost? Do the math and you'll see where the advantage is.

I've already ruined one backup DVD while rotating the xbox while the disk was in it <dumb mistake>. I simply burned another backup from the original and for $1, was good to go. Now if I had to buy another original, I would have been set back $60, or at least had a long wait and many emails/phone calls and certainly more than the $1 it took to get DVD DL off the shelf and do a burn. I don't even waste hard drive space to keep the images, I just rip, patch, burn, delete.

replacement DVD drive cost 80 to a 100

all depends on which one u want.
