Is HDMI the "cats pajamas" compared to composite?

thinking about going to hdmi and am wondering if it REALLY makes a difference versus composite???
Currently I am only using a standard 19" color tv with composite hookup for my 360...
Next question is that my plan is to go with only a 20" lcd with hdmi and 720i resolution... I know this is small but i dont want to fork over the big bucks for a larger tv... So my question is will I see a significant improvement in resolution if i use an HDMI connection with a 20 inch lcd tv as opposed to my current composite connection with a standard 19" tv (old technology)?????

i may get yelled at for this response...but my recommendation would be to upgrade to COMPONENT cables (which are cheap) with no need to go to HDMI. for a 20" LCD at 720i, there is just no need. you won't see a noticable difference. i'd even go so far as to say if you don't want to pay for components, then just stay with your composites. I have 3 50" plasmas (2 1080p, 1 720p) and although i see a little difference, it's not THAT differnent (between HDMI and component). the nicest thing about the HDMI is that it's one cable for both audio and video, so less cables.

I'll second that. You should see a difference between composite and component... but it'll be a waste to go from component to hdmi for a smaller tv.

I will third that motion. If it were a larger HDTV, LCD or DLP TV then i would say to go for the HDMI. But with a 19" just go with composite, or VGA if it has an input for that.

Except in the case of the 360.... the hdmi doesnt pass through 5.1 dolby digital.

Running all your equipment (YV, DVD, Game systems) through a home theater or good stereo receiver is always the best idea if your looking for that true mindblowing sound in your games and movies. A lot of the newer models have at least HDMI on them. And you do not have to worry about the source signal as it will decode it and output in 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 whichever type you decide on buying.

well as mentioned, i have a "composite" hookup however my tv doesnt have "component" capabilities.. I was looking at a 20" lcd thru Costco that has one hdmi port for $250.00...
I already purchased an hdmi cable..
Just out of curiosity (sp), is there much of a difference in picture realism/quality between "Composite vs. Component"???????????????

very noticable difference between composite and component. Colors look brighter and picture is more defined. Not a very noticable difference between component and HDMI especially on a small tvs. I have a 52" CRT RCA HDTV which actually looks better through component than the DVI.
