my problem is this when I go into recovery mode my dpad and x,o,[],/\ buttons work fine and when I goto use the them in games they work fine in the games menus.
but only the buttons work when playing the games.
the dpad is faulty and moves by itself in the games.
but in the psp main menus for selecting stuff and navigating they do not work at all.
the only way I can get to the main menus is to run a umd game then press home and and then click on yes but I can not do that because the dpad and the x,o,[],/\ buttons do not work for that bit. any one know why.
also my mute sound button works by its self.

my psp is a fat which I have just used my tool battery and memory card to unbrick it in case it was semi bricked so now it is 3.71m33 and still has the same problem.

I have also just put a new power switch board thing in to fix another problem.

I think you should try and reflash your firmware. Since you said it works in games, then it should work in the XMB/Recovery Menu as well.

I have tried re flashing it but in makes no difference. and if you had read what I said, I said it works it the game menus as in I can select what bike to ride what track to use etc. but when I go to ride the bike it steers by itself. all so it will not work on anything else to do with the psp except for the recovery menu.

Then you must've put your buttons back wrong so take your faceplate off and then see if anything is wrong there.

Well all I can suggest is to just put it back on right because if it's not leveled and one side is higher up then another, it will go out of control because that's what happens with me and the analog stick. Other then that.. I got nothing.

Sounds like your analog stick might be out of place/shifted a bit...try cleaning your analog stick and its contact points.

it is not the analog stick because in the psp menus you use the dpad so how can the analog stick stop the dpad working in the psp menus

Thats what i'm basing my judgement on...Usually when it moves by itself in game its because of a faulty analog stick. And i'm guessing it doesnt work in your xmb because the analog stick is being pressed by itself or is faulty so the motherboard reads that input before it reads the dpad input. Just a guess.

Hey quakebo.

Did you figure out how to fix your problem? I have a somewhat similar problem.

My dpad also seems to be moving by itself in a few situations:
1. When I try to change my PSP nickname in the system settings, the cursor is stuck on the left, as if the left button is stuck.
2. When I am in a game, and I press the home button to exit, I cannot move to the left to the YES option to exit! Actually even if I press X on the NO option, it doesn't respond. Pressing X is actually "activating" a selection in the game running in the background...
3. In game menus. Just an example, in ridge racer, when I click on continue to continue a previous game, the menu scrolls down as if the down button is stuck...

Based on your description, our problems aren't exactly similar..but I am also using 3.71m33. Not sure if this is a coincidence or not but I started having this problem a little while after installing 3.71m33. ALthough I must say I did play for a day or 2 before that problem occurred. I've even downgraded back to 1.5 and then the problem still remained in 1.5..I've browsed around but I haven't seen any reports of such glitches...

Solution...

No more snacks while playing your psp :P

But on a serious note, have you tried taking your faceplate off and cleaning your dpad and analog stick areas?

Sorry I don't want to hijack Quakebo's thread so I created my own as perhaps our problems aren't the same.

But to answer your question Staxx, yes I did open it up and clean it..

Also if you can check my other thread with more details, I find it strange why the button would be stuck only in certain situations.. e.g. it's stuck on the left when i try to change my psp nickname.. but not when i am in the psp "menus"

have you ever had your psp apart? if yes then the little rubber contact that goes between the analog stick and the board may be in the wrong way round. if not then get a new analog stick.

listen this will not solve with buying new analog stick. i had the same problem and i was having two psps. i changed the analog stick but still the same problem even i replaced the small rubber pin which connects between motherboard and analog stick but still no solution. this is a serious problem which i have seen and having no solution. but there is only one solution not to fix it but tempoarary fixing. take a screw and fit the pitches tightly so that there comes a little pressure on the upper body of psp then see this problem will be finished. but when u lose them again the problem will rise. so something is better than nothing.

yes.. get a new dpad... the only way to test it after u put a new dpad in. you got to tighten up all the screw on the cover before trying the dpad. i could remembered the mistake i make, i was assuming the new dpad was not working and the little rubber thing was not place properly without tighten all the screw back together. once i done that everything was back to original. all the movement and direction. hope this will help ...
