wait you did format with winhiip to make it a ps2 hard drive (once u make it a ps2 hard drive it can NEVER go back to pc hard drive) right? If you did then windows shouldn't recognize the drive at all. at least mine doesn't

No, I used HD loader itself to format it into a PS2 HDD, windows doesnt reconise it as a accessible disk, but it shows up under device mangement(as it says in numorous tutorials)thing is, I can use it on my friends PC (windows XP 2005 Media Center Edition)no problem, just not on mine

when you connect a ps2 formatted hdd to the computer, it's not suppose to show up. it's only recognizeable in winhiip. so if you want to copy the games from the hdd, you have to use winhiip to copy them.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

Broadband adapter being a Network adapter?, if so then yes you do need one. I think there might be a way to find all the connections on the motherboard and solder to them, but thats risky.

Also just remembered you could use a USB HDD, Im not too sure about the compatibility of games with those now though it used to be real bad, but was improving.
