HELP - Set up for Panasonic Ex 77

Just taken delivery of a Panasonic EX77. Have plugged in all in, in the right places according to instructions but cannot set it up. Everytime I try and go into menus they move across the screen and I cannot see the full menu. The only thing I can do at the moment is play a DVD. I feel a right nerd! What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
