Hi. What is everyones reccommended burn speed for Verbatim 16x dvd+r(MCC) discs? I know that it's reccommended to burn at half the speed of the disc (8x) but what is everyones opinion? Has anyone done quality tests with nero to prove what burn speed gives better results?

8x is an absolute max for me. I usually burn at 6x.
A lot of it depends on the burn speed of the burner itself too.
No, i've never actually done a quality test with nero. I have just found through trial and error that 6x works just fine for me.

I burn at 6x with TY or Verb's, if i'm out and have to resort to my cheaper Fuji Film or Sony i'll burn at 4x just to make sure.
There just happens to be a lot of variables that determine quality that are certainly not limited to by burn speed alone.

i do ALL burning at 8x, whether it's single recorder burns, multiple recorder burns, internal burners, external (USB2.0) burners, SATA burners, or combinations of any of the above; this is regardless of whether i'm burning using 8x or 16x discs (i mix and match 8x and 16x discs with multiple recorder burns also, plus i mix -R and +R also).
The golden rule is to NOT multitask during burning, as a successfully completed burn does NOT automatically equate to a 100% usable/playable or recopyable disc.
Multitasking during burning is ok on a modern dual core or beefier machine. My main machine is now a Quad core so i multitask a fair bit during burns but i don't multitask while burning on my myriad of older machines..

Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

I burn my 8X Taiyo Yudens at 8x and all of my 16X media at 12X, mostly Verbatims but also any of my CMC Mag and Ritek stuff as well. When I was scanning I got pretty good results so I stuck with the speeds.

I find thats ok also, although i let the burn get started about a min or two before i do anything else. especially when I'm doing multiple burns

When in doubt, stick to 1/2 the rated speed of the media you're using.
