You must update to 3.52 M33-4 before installing 3.71 M33-4.

Go HERE to upgrade to 3.52 M33-4.

Go HERE to upgrade to 3.71 M33-4 + 1.50 ADD ON-2 (3.52 M33-4 must be installed before updating to this firmware).

An alternate way to do this which is easier and safer is creating a Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick. This will install straight to 3.71 M33-2. HERE is a guide you can follow.

Yes, you need the ADD - ON because this custom firmware takes the 1.50 Kernel out. That's why you need to install it afterwards. So if you want to play hombrew, then you need the ADD - ON V2

Past custom firmware 3.52 M33 and below had both 1.50 and 2.XX/3.XX kernel capabilities.

Sony has done something different with the new 3.71 and above firmware. Instillation of custom firmware had to change as well due to this new way Sony has done the firmware. Dark Alex found a work around to add 1.50 kernel but it only could be installed as a separate ADD ON.

You don't necessarily need to install the 1.50 ADD ON but it is recommended if you use allot of 1.50 kernel homebrew. the PSP will have better homebrew compatibility with the 1.50 ADD ON.

Holy F-in Crap!!!! I have been pulling my hair out trying to get GPSP, CPS1PSP, CPS2PSP, DgenLite and a bunch of other Emulators working... I have a Fat 3.71 M33-4 PSP and I ve set the homebrew folder to 1.50 in the Recovery Console, and nothing was working... I am going to go find this 1.50 Add-on v2 right now and try it out as soon as I get home.

I Thank you, and what remains of my hair thanks you!

larrylje, I have a 1.50 Fat right now as well, are you saying its safer to just install straight to 3.71 M33-2 with the Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick? Well i know that what you typed but it just sounds a little too good to be true, lol. Just want to double check.

Wouldn't going through all the CFW be more thorough or is it just redundant? And does doing it this way install the 150 kernalV2? or is that an extra step like upgrading to m33-4?

Updating it manually has more risk because you can brick the PSP when doing the update. If your PSP is bricked and you don't have any other custom firmware PSP your pretty much screwed unless you Buy a Datel Tool Battery or Hardmod your Battery to a Pandora Battery.

The Pandora Battery + Magic Memory Stick is intended for a bricked PSP but it is just an added bonus that you can use it to install custom firmware as well.

So using an Unbricker to install or update to 3.71 M33-2 would be safer because there is no chance of a brick.

Yes the 3.71 M33-4 and 1.50 ADD ON-2 (for PSP FAT ONLY) are extra steps that you have to run via Game Menu Memory Stick.
