What does "Covent" Mean???? If you have Mpeg files that you want to Put on DVD you have to make sure the Mpeg files are DVD compliant, if they are Not you will have to encode them to DVD compliant Mpeg2 useing a High Quality Mpeg encoder..Then you will need a DVD authoring Program to Put the Mpeg2 files on to DVD....

Im a newbie at this also, but have successfully figured it out. One question, though, I have a *.mpg file that is 4.3gb. When i try to convert to the DVD, I get a message that says the file is too big. But i thought the DVD+R has a 4.7GB limit? My goal is to be able to play the *.mpg file on my DCD to watch via the TV. If I simply COPY the *.mpg to the DVD+R, it works fine.

On a test file of .1GB, I successfully got the file converted and succesfully watched via the DVD through my TV. So there must be some kind of conversion factor that makes the convered files bigger than the *.MPG. AM i doing something wrong, or what should I budget for the conversion factor?

thx in advance,
Bodene

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

Well In the First Place you Can"t Just Burn a Mpeg file to a DVD and and Have it work on Most DVD Players and it wouldn"t even be considered a DVD....A DVD-R actually holds 4.38gb Aprox, and when you author a 4.3gb Mpeg file to DVD with a DVD authoring Program then there is a Little Bit of Overhead Data being added with the Menu"s and IFO,BUP Files and the Files get Re-Muxed which can add or reduce the File size a Little...You can allways Take your DVD Mpeg2 file and Cut a Couple Minutes off of the end Credits and then it should Fit on DVD-R, and if you Use WAV format as the Audio in your DVD then you should Use instead AC3 or Mpeg1 Layer 2 audio because they are about 1/10th the Size as wav with not Discernable Quality differance and this way it leaved more bitrate for the Video which will Produce Better overall Video Quality....Cheers

After you have converted your AVI to Mpeg2/DVD you will need a DVD Authoring Program..With A DVD Authoring Program you can add the Menu"s and Chapters to your Mpeg2/DVD file, then The DVD authoring Program will Format the menu"s and Chapters and your Mpeg2/DVD file to a "Video_TS Folder" which it should then Burn to DVD-R...This is the Only real way of Putting a Movie File on DVD and Have it Play on your DVD player...On of the easiest DVD authoring Programs is called "Tmpgenc DVD Author" which can be downloaded at TMPGEnc.net....Cheers" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.TMPGEnc.net....Cheers

Well it Probably asked for an audio file because there isn"t any audio in your Mpeg file..To Fix this you will have to extract the audio from your AVI file to Wav format useing something like "Virtual Dub" then Load that Wav file into TMPGEnc and set the "Stream Type" to "ES Audio Only" then go to the Audio settings and choose "Mpeg1 Layer 2" as the audio format and choose 384kbs as the audio bitrate ,then close the settings and encode..When it is Done you should have "mpa" or "mp2" file, now just load this and the Video into the DVD authoring Program and author to dvd but you have to make sure that both and audio and Video together have to be smaller than 4.38gb to fit on a DVD-R....Cheers
