Wii: Can backups play non-backup saved games?

I searched and couldn't find anything on this... I have rented a game and gotten far in it. Then, I threw in a back-up of this game and it didn't recognize the saved game... does anyone know if this should be possible?

It's supposed to recognize the save. Did you make the backup yourself?

nah, i downloaded it. the problem may be that i downloaded a PAL version of the game and converted it using wiigionfree - maybe i gotta get the NTSC Version

Yeah that's what I was going to say. The save region needs to be the same as the game region.

that is absolutely the problem. The PAL and NTSC versions are totally different.
