My ps2 is doing a terrible job of reading my swapmagic discs and 75% of the time when I load a game it either says "Not a valid PS2 disc" or the game loads but the mucic will skip and it will take 5 mins to load a screen. My friend said to clean the lens but I dont know how to.

If your PS2 is an old fat Ps2 then here is what you can do.
1. Unplug your PS2 and place it on a flat surface Upside down.
2. Take the square pads off the bottom of the PS2. (Dont worry they can be replaced.) There should be eight pads in all.
3. Remove the screws and place them to the side. (They may be different sizes so remember where they came from.)
4. Carefully turn the PS2 up the right way again.
5. Ok, lifting from Left to Right (This Is Important) CAREFULLY turn the case upside down laying it next to the main bulk. (Watch how you go, there is a wire that runs from the power and rest buttons to the main bulk.)
6. Now remove the four screws covering the DVD draw and carefully lift the cover and place aside. (You will need a Dualler screw driver. (Tiny cross head) to be able to remove this cover.)
7. Now using a cotton bud dip it in a cap of vinigar and gently (As little preasure as possible as you dont want to bust the lense.) wipe the lense. (Turning the cotton bud in circles normally works best.)
Note. Don't use to much vinigar, you don't want any spillages.
8. Wait for about half an hour then using a clean cotton bud wipe the lense again to remove any dried vinigar.
9. Very carefully replace all the components and voilla.
Hope this helps.

Vinegar? Ummm...you sure about that?
I suggest using a cue tip and alcohol. (not booze)

Yeah, vinigar is ok to use.
But if you have alcohol that is probably the better option.

Yes there is a way to do this without taking apart your PS2...buy another one. Other than that, some disassembly is required.

They would work but only to an extent, they are not very effective.
For certain results its best to take the PS2 appart and clean it properly.
Anyway if you get it right and all goes well, you will know what to do next time.
Practice makes perfect.

I opened my PS2 couple months ago and disconnected this wire. It's still intact to the eject/reset buttons but where does the other end go? Is it the little brown thing next to the red, orange and white things with wires?
Nevermind, that was it and now it works! :)

Most DVD Lense cleaners work for a while.
But remember all the disk does is push the dirt off
the lense and leaves it in the PS2.
Where as if you clean the lense you take the dirt out.

Firstly how did you apply the vinegar to the lens?
Secondly how do you mean it doesnt work?
Do you have trouble reading Cd's Dvd's?
Does it display any graphics on screen?
Please explain what kind of trouble you have so we can help more.
But if it is just the lens i would suggest using a cottonbud and very carefully place it on the lens and roll the cottonbud round, this should clear any smear you may have left on the lens
