I have recently purchased a Plasma TV and a home cinema system (model # SC-PT450). Playing my original DVDs in the player works great. However, when I insert the same DVD which has been backed up to another disk using DVD Shrink, I get the error message "This type of disk cannot be played. Please insert a different disk." The same thing happens with different disks. They all played on my old DVD player. Is there any way to try to make them work on this one?

If they are single sided and not dvd+r booktyped of bittyped to dvd-rom, the answer is probably no. Either a new dvd player that plays your old backed dvds is in order, or re backup all your dvds into such a way as the new player can recognize them.Merry Christmas

or the new dvd player may not like the brands of media you used.

Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim are the most compatible. and i find the DVD dash R work better in most players compared to the DVD plus R format

Would making the player region free (e.g. by the method in this thread: http://www.dcevolution.net/panasonic/ind...d=32&Itemid=54) solve my problem?

No it wont. If you're buying your dvds in the USA they are region 1 and if you bought your dvd player in USA it is region 1 too.

cincyfan is right, making it region free won't help.

Have you tried any of the things that were suggested so far? Bitsetting or checking your blank media?

I have tried using DVD-R instead of DVD+R, but to no avail.

Is there any way to bitset DVDs which have already been burnt to a DVD+R?

I tried both methods of booktyping and using different blank media. Neither method made the disks playable in the player.

sounds like you are going to have to get a different dvd player so the backups will work

This seems like a very hard "nut to crack." The blank media you're using are supported by your player. Is video standard out of the question (PAL or NTSC)?

Well, my blank media is PAL, and my player plays PAL as standard (I know this because it can play the original PAL DVDs).
