Has anyone heard of the wiimagic mod chip?

Bought a chipped wii a few months ago and was working fine with backup games etc... Yesterday, my machine decided to stop reading backups, so i opened it up to see any loose connections on the mod.

I was expecting to find a mod chip such as wiikey etc, but it turned out to be "wii magic"(whatever that is). Anyway, I noticed there were 3 loose connections, as numbered 3,4 & 5 on the "alternative" picture(Link- http://www.aladdin2.com/wii/wiimagic/3.0.htm ). Its obvious that they need re-connecting, but I am struggling to understand where. On the "alternative" picture, 3 pins/legs (as numbered 3,4 & 5) of that square microchip have been cut off and i think it was done on purpose for the mod. Now, this is where I dont know where to re-connect; on the wii main board or on the microchip??

Totally dont understand why the person who installed the chip decided to go for the "alternative" method... :S
