I recently bought a already modded japanese wii, But the problem is I don't know the modchip type. Is it possible to recognize the mod chip without opening the wii? ie using some software.

I tried to test it with wiikey 1.9g update, but it failed during the test. So I am sure it's not a wiikey.

why is everybody so afraid to open up their wii's? Its probably one of the easiest systems to disassemble. Without visually verifying you can pretty much only determine if it is or isn't a wiikey (using the setup disc)

Yeah, that's true. I should have opened it and check. But I am just checking if there is a way to check without opening it.
