media won't finalize, content lost?????

I recently purchased a Gateway recorder (DVD+R) and a few blank media (Sony).
I followed the instructions on hook-up formatting, etc. I went to record my first show that happened to be a once-in-a lifetime show (that's why I bought the recorder) and all seemed well until I went to "finalize" the disc. The player wouldn't recognize the disc. It asked for the disc to be inserted. I went back to the Gateway store and told them of the problem and they said it was probably the media. Anyway, is there anyway I can preserve the show? While recording, the player timer was going, and the disc now has "the look" of buring activity. I tried the disc in another player but again the player won't recognize the disc. I'm afraid that if I send the disc into Sony, they'll replace the blank disc, but that won't help me with the lost show. More info: the tech at Gateway saw "bumps" along the edge of the disc and said that was unusual. Any help is appreciated.

IsoBuster is the best tool i know of, wich can restore contents from broken/ill burned cd's and dvd's - RW and R

Try it out, it comes in a free version with most features enabled

Are we talking about a DVD burner? If so finalising should be automatic. I have the feeling you are talking about a standalone recorder in which case you are in the wrong section, but anyway you should take the equipment back to the store. There is nothing wrong with Sony media. If the disc will not play on anything else then I'm afraid you've lost it.
