Freeware DVD Backup Software ?

I used to have CD Backup software and knew how to use it.
Now that Programs are written on DVD's, none of them work.
I have looked for Freeware (retired with minimal income) that will backup
DVD's, but all of them backup movies!
ABC DVD Copy Lite just does Movies...
DVD Fab Decrypter just does movies...
I need something to backup Software DVD's so that if the original goes
T.U., I'll have a backup copy....JUST FOR ME!
Is there Freeware out there that will make backups of software on DVD's ?
Something that is not made just for Movies and Video files....?

Thank you so very much!
I am downloading it as I write this.
I "saved page as.." of the Index page you showed me - now I can study
it at my leisure while trying to use it.
It looks rather complex.
My problem now is that I don't understand all the current jargon with
DVD software and disks.

I've not personally used this to backup any data, but I've read that it does work quite well and it really shouldn't be that complicated. Good luck

Wow.....I guess I just don't understand this!
I used ImgBurn and created an .iso image file of the DVD Program disk I wanted to back up.
It is 3,535,008 kb in size.
I then burned the file to a DVD+R....and it is still the image file on the DVD.
I 'thought' that the image file would be translated back to what was on
the original....guess I am too ignorant to use this!
Can someone tell me what to do to make a backup copy of the original DVD disk made using this .iso image file?
i.e. - how to translate it back to the original files and burn them onto a DVD+R.
Am I even using the correct jargon?
Totally lost.

I'm learning fast.....
I read some stuff after Googling ".iso image files" and found that NERO
(I have Nero 7.0 - came with my DVD±RW ROM) will burn an .iso image back to the original files.
Tried it choosing a DVD-UDF choice and it worked. NERO said the DVD-ISO choice wouldn't transfer such a big iso file...(?)
I guess I burned the iso file as a file the first time....???
anyway, now I have the iso file on a DVD as the .iso file AND I have the
backup DVD now also.
I am still stumbling around, but learning also.
Do you know of any web sites that are good at tutoring us unwashed types
in backing up CD and DVD Program disks?
Christ! Life is getting much too complex!

When you burned the data to your disc as an ISO you should be able to insert your disc with Winrar or similar zip program and look/use/install etc. the files contained in the ISO. You can also mount the image on a virtual drive, which Nero can create for you, and you can use the disc from there.

I guess my problem is that I don't understand the words you are using.
When you say "mount" as in "...you can also mount the image on a virtual drive." -
what do you mean by that word - what would I be doing?
When I go into NERO, I can copy the .iso file to a DVD and I get an .iso
file on the DVD.
When I went into NERO and the .iso file was "made" into a usable DVD
backup - what is that called (Jargon)?
What did I do different? I don't know why they came out different...!
The problem is that I don't know the terms or nomenclature or jargon,
whatever you call it to work with this stuff, nor do I know where to
look for it....

I knew what a "Virtual Drive" meant - an 'old' word from way back in ancient times - 10 years ago!
I'm 65 and make my own computers from components...but the terms keep changing so fast!
Now everything is DVD's and new stuff!
The Glossary does not have "Burn" nor "Mount" listed.
No, I don't consider your reply mean....I am just not quite used to some of these Forums yet.
So damned much information to assimilate!
Anyway - the problem for me is that after I made the image .iso file and then when I went to NERO, I didn't know what to do with it.
Nero can either COPY the file to a DVD or BURN it to a DVD (did I say
that right?).
Copying it is like making a DATA DVD with stuff one wants to save.
Burning it to a DVD causes some other process to occur (which I do not
understand fully).
One copies - one changes the iso file back to what it was made from and
places it on the DVD as it was originally.
NERO's menu doesn't explain that - one has to know beforehand....
and I don't see the word 'mount' used in any menu.
Thanks for your help - I appreciate it.
I shall continue to bumble and flop about....

When you "load" an image on a virtual drive that action is called mounting.
When you "copy" a file to blank media you are burning it...there isn't a difference in the two processes. You can copy files from your disc to your HDD, this would be called ripping.
The only thing I really burn is music and movies, I don't burn or copy any kind of data that usually, but if you have Nero burning ROM you should be able to drag and drop or browse to the file(s) you want on the disc and burn them.
Here is a guide I made up for Burning ROM many moons ago and unfortunately the images have gotten lost in a data base change, but you will get the jest of using the program. You will of course be burning a DVD-ROM vs. Video (as indicated in the guide). DVD-ROM (ISO) will give you an image just the same as Imgburn and DVD-ROM (BOOT) will give you a bootable disc, meaning you can boot from the disc upon restart.

I'm sorry I can't be more help with Nero as I've cleaned it from my system and moved on to less bloated applications so I have nothing to crossreference your problems or question with other than searching for them with google.

About the ISO burning business...
If you have a copy of a CD software, you have to burn a "Disc Image", or "burn image" to disc. If you just dragg-and drop-it, simply burn it like any other file, you will get a "Data Cd", with an iso on it. The same with the DVD movies. You could dragg and drop the iso of a movie or the VOB files onto a DVD, but it would not have the necesary structure to be playable as a DVD Video.

If you burned as a data disc, like LOCOENG said, you can open with winrar,mount the ISO to a virtual drive... :
Now you should be able to browse the files contained by the ISO, by going to "My Computer, right click on the virtual drive and click "Explore".

Thank you very much for that information!
After using up a DVD+R disk with the drag-and-drop, I found out about
just storing the ISO file.
However, not wasted since I now have the iso file which I can "Burn" to
another DVD+R should the copy I have get scratched -the biggest problem!
BTW - Your signature graphic....Did you make it or copy it?
I teach Chemistry and I'd like to get something like that showing how
electrons orbit the nucleus (before quantum mechanics relegated them to
probabibilty clouds...)

If you have Nero and your not too experienced with Images and technical software, then why not just use Nero Burning ROM to create Data DVD's? I mean if your just burning ordinary data files there's no reason why you can't use it and it's far more simple than programs like Img Burn.
Just go Start> Nero 7> Nero Express> Select 'Data DVD'> Add your files> And Burn.
It's extremely straightforward and gets the job done. No fussing around.
