Is wireless affecting my video playback?

I have had my laptop for a couple of years or so now and have had no major problems with it, i consider myself fairly computer literate, any problems i have had i have been able to over come. However recently i have been having problems with my video playback. In the last few weeks whenever i play videos it jerks and stutters this was not only in Windows media player but online as well (alluc, youtube etc). At first i thought it maybe that background programs were taking up to much memory so i searched online and found that windows defender was a real culprit for this so i got rid but still the problem continued. What i realised though was that if i turned the wireless adapter off it stopped, so i figured it was maybe the downloads running in the background that caused the problem so i killed them off too but left the wireless connected to the internet, but i still got the bad playback. The only resolution being turning off the wireless adapter. This may however be a coincidence. Has anybody any thoughts on this and any suggestions on what i can do to correct it?
Oh by the way i removed all my codec packs and reinstalled nice new ones but the problem still carried on.

I'm no expert at this stuff, but can offer some insight. Most of the time, finding the problem is the hardest thing to do. verify first that disabling your wireless adapter fixes the problem every time, and was not a coincidence. If thats the case, your half way home.
second, during playback, go to process tab of task manager and see how much of your resources are used up. It could just be a ram issue(need more) Its also a really good idea to disable/uninstall unneeded processes. msconfig/startup to disable processes that launch at startup.
Check device manager and make sure there are no problem devices.
then, update drivers for video, and network adapter.
I have found that a piece of hardware sometimes goes bunk, but will still function. However, it will do weird stuff to the system.
If none of this works, completely uninstall network adapter, and reinstall with newest drivers. If that doesnt work, i would get a new wireless adapter.

Sorry i should of mentioned earlier i tried all the stuff you suggested before i put the post up. It does seem that everytime the wireless is on it screws up the video including videos im streaming off the net. Checked all the prcesses nothing is hogging memory that i can see, i did however just run a full spyware and adawre scan and it found a few things so i may be this that was affecting it ill test it and let people know....

ok full scan done, like i said earlier it found a few things and cleaned them up for me but still the problem with the playback is happening. I just tested it, i streamed a video from stage 6 with the wireless on and it was stuttering, albeit not as much as usual, but as soon as i turn the wireless off it stops. Its a built in wireless device if thats any help and in the last 2 years of owning the laptop its not done this. Has any body got any suggestions??
