possible bad mod cho[?

okay I've used the search function and cant find anything like this so bear with me.

Just bought the family a Wii for christmas and having three young boys bought an lg drive and had a D2C chipset mod done by someone who's done lots.

My problem now is now every time that I put dvd in, burnt or otherwise I get a loud clicking noise with a buzz and the console is unable to read the disk.

I'm guessing that there is something wrong with the dvd drive, but am wondering that if the modchip is bad, could this cause this as well??
