It's not that nobody cares its just that people have learned to rely on concrete releases not just news of hacks. People used linux to hack the xbox360 and supposedly run homebrew on that as well. That was 1 1/2 years ago. We still haven't seen homebrew on that system.
As soon as the first wii homebrew is announced then people will get excited.
Homebrew means software made by regular users (i.e. emulators, old games ported to new systems like Doom and Quake etc. are all homebrew).
Your excitement killing is all fine and dandy, but if they can actually run linux on it as easily as they say, then it's only a matter of time until we start seeing everything get ported to the wii as well.
Then again, all the emulators you could want are already available when you boot in GC mode w/ fine speed, not to mention virtual console is there too, and as much as I do support homebrew and the authors of the programs, I can't say I'm too excited to see YET ANOTHER port of doom, quake, streets of rage etc. or w/e else homebrew on the wii, especially in the shadow of huge releases like brawl, galaxy and M.kart wii coming next year.
