Heyo. Just wondering if there are any solid modders that serve the NorCal area. I have a modded PS2 that's acting up, so I need a repair and possibly a reinstall. PM or reply please!

Sure!

Well, my PS2 was modded with a Matrix clone about a year and a half ago. It's been working just dandy since then. We use it pretty much on a daily basis. One day, games simply stopped working. Generally, it would read games as DVD discs and not play them. On VERY rare occasions, PS1 games will still work, but I have yet to get a single PS2 game to work on it. I can still access the modchip functions screen upon bootup. Originals still play.

Any ideas? Someone was telling me that it's entirely possible that the laser is dying...think I should just have it replaced?

yeah clones dont work that well and the original is only like 20 bucks so try to fix your laser.

and if its a v10 make sure you did the romeo mod

and if its a v12 do the laser fix

who did the mod for you?

It's a fat one, v7 if I remember right. It's been a loong time lol

I had it done by Bay Area Mods, I think.

Should I get the laser replaced? Or simply recalibrated? Assuming that the chip is fine, of course...it does sound like a laser problem.

Start with the very basics. We know your ps2 version didn't need a mod for the laser when the chip was put in.

Before throwing down any money for repairs. Try cleaning the laser lens for the hell of it. It can't possibly hurt anything.
