Here is the story and the goal !.... Rock band for ps2 are on a dual layer we can't rebuild the games to work with swap magic for longer than 15 songs, if you simply use the first layer with the afterdawn dvd5 convertion technique.

Here is what ive discovered so far...

- the structure seem to be the same as guitar hero, but with more .ark files (lot of background video ? or dummy .ark files ?)

- I can't open the .ARK with GAME EXTRACTOR or ARC EXPANDER 1.01

- Rumors on the web is that video files are .PSS that we can simply downsample using PSSdown.

- Ive discovered that i can extract all layers using apache3.

- Ive tried to burn the first layer again but with different .ark to continue my games, but no sucess....

- Here is the list of .ARK files (2gb per files).... (MAIN_0.ARK, MAIN_1.ARK, MAIN_2.ARK, MAIN_3.ARK, MAIN_4.ARK

- The files MAIN_0.ARK are crucial for the games to work

thanks

It seems like someone from Scorehero has already found a way to extract the videos: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2865

so does this mean that i can't simply backup the original DVD9, burn it to a Verbatim DL+R disc and play it on my DMS3 modded PS2? i've never had to "modify" an image to get my other backups to work, but those were all only DVD5 discs.

thanks.

Even with a mod chip u might have a problem. Some chips, the older ones, cannot play dual layer dvds.. Mine, for example, doesn't play rockband burned on a DVD9. I'd really like to play the game, i bought the ps3 version(ps2 bundle was nowhere to be found), but i don't have a ps3 yet.. :(

Ok need some help?
For some reason Apache 3 won't extract the second layer for me?
Even if I right click directly on the Ark file on the second layer and extract?
It comes up with the process for about a second as if there is nothing there?
How did you get it to work?
Thanks :-)

so, with a DMS3 chip, do you think the DVD9 copy will play? at $2 a disc i'm willing to try it, but if someone knows for certain, that would be great. when i start the burn using ImgBurn, it complains about the layer break...should i just ignore this? i've just hit cancel so far and haven't tried the burn yet.

thanks...sturmie

Same here. I bought the US version to play on my PAL PS2, but Swap Magic won't play the dual layered disc :(

OK...i just burnt the original DVD9 disc on a Verbatim DL+R using DVD Decrypter and using the multi-tap, i was able to get 2 Guitar Hero guitars + 1 Logitech USB mouse (using the PS2 controller) to work with no problems.

weird thing is, i tried using ImgBurn at first and the burn failed...DVD Decrypter had no problems.

Hey Stermie... when I tried to backup mine using DVD Decrypter it locks up at 51% any ideas on that? I have searched all over... I have burnt 5 DL coasters... only one left.. it would be nice if the last one worked!! Thanks

I think there is no solution for this. You either have a compatible chip, or you play it on the ps3.

It's been a long time since I used the DVD5 rebuild method so I've forgotten how to do it (I've still got the tools though). Any chance of a link to the guide? I wouldn't mind even playing just 15 songs of this game ;)

Anyway, I'm interested in a full DVD5 conversion, I hope someone out there can find a way!

I don't know if this will help. But, I've seen a ps2 with a flip top run rockband off a burned dl dvd. It only plays the first layer even though both layers are burned. It's achieved by loading a single layered version and while its loading right before the T for teen comes on, quickly remove it and replace it with the dl version. It runs perfectly up till the point that the second layer is needed. Perhaps someone smarter then me can do something with it.

Does anyone know what this error is, I'm on my last DL dvd for use with my chipmod ver 9 fatty ps2, I have got this same error 5 times right when I get to 51%

btw my burner is some cheap lite on external from walmart that supports DL burning

Ok,
some good and bad news...I was able to make a bootable DVD5 of Rock Band with ONLY the 1st layer of the game...Bad news is, that I still cannot find a way to shrink it ALL down to fit onto a DVD5. All I did was ripped the 1st layer and make sure you only use Main0 & Main1 ARK files.

I think there 12 songs in quick play, but hey, better than 0 !!!

Laters...

I gave up on trying to shrink it, and just went out and bought the game since I couldn't get it to burn

YEAHHH, check this post on this forum ! they have a ripkit on rapidshare !!! (i can't post link here): http://www.alucard.cc/forums/ you may need to register it !

-----------------------------------------------
Rock Band DVD9->DVD5 Ripkit
------------------------------------------------
By Psychospacefish

Media: 1 DVD5 (4.36GB)

Ripped: Intro/Bonus/Credits movies, other movies downsampled to 600kbps.

NOTE: The game will "freeze" if it tries to play any of the deleted movies (see above), just press start or the green button on your guitar controller to continue.
NOTE2: Even though the disc image is 4.36GB, it still fully works on Swap Magic 2.

WARNING: Do not change any part of this kit, or else the game will crash.

1.Extract from an ISO image all the files from both layers with Apache 3 into the same folder as the ripkit (you can delete the ISO after this)
2.Run rip.bat
4.At the end IML2ISO will pop up, select rb.iml and click start.
5.Burn the ISO at 4X with DVD Decrypter.

Big thanks to gnie for DVD IML2ISO and neness for Kit Magician, and the makers of PCSX2.
