I have some what of a weird question, but here it goes. I am still using rip_it_for_me for all my coping without a problem. The problem I have am having is with the new blank DVD's I purchased. I should mention that have only been using Memorex DVD's to back-up my movies, and DVD Shrink to do the copying.

I can copy a movie (say spiderman 3)and if I burn the movie on one of the new disks, it will not play in my expensive DVD player. It will sometimes play in cheap player I use for my kid. However if I burn the movie on an old Memorex disk, it plays in any DVD player I throw it into.

I am wondering if there is something I am doing wrong, or if a format has change? It just seems really weird that an old disk will work fine while the new disks do not seem to work. I am out of old disks, and would like to back-up the kids movies my son got for christmas. Is there a way to solve this issue I am having? or I am just out to lunch?

its a media compatibility problem some DVD players are more picky than others. using the DVD dash R format proves to be the most compatible with most DVD players if your using the DVD plus R format booktype them to DVD-ROM that makes them more compatible for playback. using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning between 4x and 8x max is your best bet. stay away from the inexpensive media (memorex etc.)

Don't ask why, but my friends and I came to the conclusion that the el cheapo dvd players play just about anything and the expensive brand name players were very picky about what they played. Conclusion - booktype all burned discs ( only +R will booktype ), and buy only el cheapo dvd players for best playability.
