All the programmes that have been reccommended on here are either too user unfriendly or too complicated or only downloadable in other unusual formats.

I have one mkv file of a film that I want to convert to a playable version (AVI or DIVx) and all I want to do is click the file that I want to convert and let the software to the rest.

I don't want to mess around with input streams, audio streams, output streams, and all that nonsense as I don't understand it and never will.

Are there any 'simple one click' freeware programmes that can do the job as I'm getting desperate here!

Thanks

First of all, there is no such thing as "1 Cick"-coverting software. Minimum:
1st click to launch the program;
2nd click to select the file you want to mess around with(convert).
3rd click to choose the location where you want the converted file saved to. This can be optional, you can leave the destination the software's default, but you might have to add extra clicks trying to retrieve your file afterwords, so 3rd click is recommended.
4th cick, hit the convert button. Without this, it will definetly not work!
Here is a pretty straight forward program, and it is free:

Any_Video_Converter is free like suggested above. Here is the link. IT IS A FREEWARE.

Most of the software come with some default settings, which work okay. All that mambo-jambo that you are talking about and you say you don't understand, are optional. You don't have to use them.
I think this is one of the easyest progs that you can use. All you have to do is "Add Vido", then select your output location(click on "File" at the top of the window); then select what format you want the .MKV to be converted to-avi, mpeg, wmv(you do that by clicking "Profile" on the top left right corner). No need to adjust any other settings or anything else. Click encode and sit back...

If all you want is play that video, you can try VLC player( very simple to use or install,small, and free also) It will play some MKV files.
