First time connecting ps2 HDD to PC

I did a lot of reading and i think i am ready to try it. I am going to take out my ps2's HDD and put it in my PC as a slave. I was just wondering if there is anything i need to know because i am very new to this and not confident with my ability to do it perfectly. I know if i mess something up it can wipe out my HDD for ps2 or even my PC. I posted because i wanted to know if there was any advice or warnings of not to touch of dissconect to keep my HDD safe.

before adding the hdd to the computer, make sure the computer is off first.
