DivX/XviD Playback problems

DivX movies sometimes works, and XviD will play but it pauses every 2-3 seconds, I have an old Fat PS2, does the Slim PS2 playback these better? Or maybe cleaning the lense of my PS2 would help? My PS2 is my main DVD player in my room. And I dont want to buy a new DVD player and have useless PS2/PSX games in my room.

Cleaning the laser might help solve the problem, but if it works fine streaming divx but not xvid then it could be something else, are you using a hombrew app to play divx/xvid files?
