OK, I know that there are a lot of guides here about how to use Magic Swap and how to solve various problems, but though I searched I couldn't find a situation identical to mine, so I had to post. Sorry if this is mentioned somewhere else.
PS2 Model: SCPH-77004, PAL version
Game Region: Both PAL & NTSC Games: All [not rebuilded]
Media Make: Philips DVD+R Burning Speed: 4x-6x
Software: DVD Decrypter
I've been using SwapMagic the last 4-5 days since I was unable to block my sensors for a whole week (it was much easier than what I was trying to do though). Despite the fact that I had no problem with my backups till yesterday (except 1-2 incidents when my sensors were unblocked), when I tried to play today, after loading the SM disc, swapping and hitting the x button, the backup disc will rotate slowly, for about 15 secs without being read and eventually stop, without getting any message. If I press x again the same process will follow, but in the end I'll get a PS2 non-valid disc.
I have verified that none of the Magic keys is blocking the disc rotation. Also all sensors are properly blocked (otherwise SM wouldn't load either). The only thing I haven't tried is changing media type, but I don't know why would that be of significance since this happened to all of my backup games all of a sudden. The laser seems to be ok as well since it can read original copies without problems.
Sorry for tiring you a bit with the explanation, I just didn't want to waste your time in unnecessary questions. Thanks a lot in advance.
P.S. Tomorrow I will try with different discs and see if I get anything. If you have any ideas other than that I'd really appreciate to hear them.
I have a similar problem on an NTSC console, except the disc keeps spinning. Rare occasions I get the unrecognized disc, but more often it just stays on a black screen for a long time. Once in a while it will load the very first title screen.
all PS2's have a hard time reading DVD+R's. I think I've read somewhere that DVD+R's overwork the laser and tends to damage it. Try using DVD-R's of high quality "TDK for example" and burn your games at 4x only.
