I have been ripping and burning DVD for some time, but have now run into an issue. I used to use CloneDVD2 to both rip and burn a DVD. However due to updated security my CloneDVD2 no longer rips. What I have been using is DVDFab to rip, then use CloneDVD2 to burn the DVD. This has worked for months. I recently tried to do a couple of Disney movies and DVDFab would not do them. I download a trial copy of Clone DVD, and install that. That software also did not work. I gave up on the Disney, and just went back to continue 'normal' DVD's. When I go to burn them however, my burning process (both CloneDVD2 or Nero), no longer work. They burn for a while, then get a media error. I went through about 10 DVD's last night before giving up. I unistalled Clone DVD, but still have the same problem. Can't this be a driver issue, or something that was installed by Clone DVD? How can I resolve this issue.
Thanks

have you changed media lately and if you havent have you bought another batch of the same type?

use dvdinfo pro or dvd identifier or imgburn to tell us the dye coding off the discs

------------

you say you cant rip? then you say it burns half way?

you ripping burning on the fly (no files to hd?)

also dvd fab just been updated

------------

getting consecutive errors on drives can cause the drive to fall from DMA to PIO, not good

------------

try the trial of anydvd running it in background while useing clonedvd 2

------------

post a nero error log please

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

what does UPDATED SECURITY mean that it stops CloneDVD2? I don't understand that? do you use AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 together? what error are you getting when CloneDVD2 isn't working? And what media are you using? Using good media will prevent many problems. Then you went to DVDFab HD Decrypter and that didn't work? I don't know what Disney DVDs you are doing but DVDFab HD Decrypter is constantly updated and I have never seen it fail! Unless there are scratches or smudges on the DVDs that you're trying to rip and burn. then you said you installed Clone DVD? This is too confusing for me...... I thought you have CloneDVD already! I didn't know there were more than one CLONEDVD!? without anymore error messages or what exactly had happen we can only guess.....

Rotary,
Thanks. The media is the same as I have been using (Sony DVD-R). This 'new' problem happened with some disk in an opened batch, and then with the new batch. In same I could not rip, that was for the Disney movies only. The others were movies that I have already ripped. The problem is on the burning. I rip to a HD, then burn from there. What do you mean the drive falling from DMA to PIO, and how can I solve that.
Thanks

Sorry about the confusion with Clone DVD, but I thought there were two products - Clone DVD from Slysoft (the one I downloaded), and CloneDVD2 from elby (the one I had been using for a while). What I meant with the added security, was that my version of CloneDVD2 and /or DVDshirk would not decode the Disney movies. I would get protection errors. I hope this helps

I can't help but add this to post >
DVD Fab ( keep updated ) to rip to HDD >
Shrink to compress > Image Burn to burn > On Good ( TY ) media
All freeware and have yet to find a movie I could not copy and out of 150 discs I have 2 coasters probably because I was multi tasking during burning - now I just let shrink and Image Burn work while I sleep. I gave away all the sofware I paid for.

Okay, so I'm still having problems. I can successfully rip the movies using either DVDfab or DVDshrink. I know this works because I can watch the 'copied' movie on my hard drive. The problem is when I go to write it.
If I use Nero Essentials 4.0 option recode, I get writing to disc failed, file nero recoded .cpp.wc668. Burnfailed (3), Key illegal request.
If I use CloneDVD2, I get media write error, A write error has occurred probbly caused by bad media. Write DVD 10 11 W2.
These are Sony DVD-D disc I am using. I have burned many with these dics before, so I don't think the disc are the problems. Can it be software, drivers, or hardware.
Thanks

Rotary,
I don't know how to post the nero log. I have two PC's. One is hooked up to the net that I am using to respond. The other is a standalone that I do my DVD's on. That one does not have internet on it.
I did not try imgburn. Is that something I would need to download? I don't know why CloneDVD or nero no longer works though.
Thanks

That is inacurate. DVDRegion Free+CSS will do just that- remove the region codes and CSS encryption. DVDFab HD Decrypter will remove all encryption. Whatever structural errors remain, can be fixed by running the movie through FixVts and/or VoBBlanker.

You might not be bypassing the DVD protection.

If I were you I would use AnyDVD, it's much better than DVDFab or DVD Decrypter, I've never had a single movie I couldn't copy with it.
It can also rip movies to your HD by itself.

Make sure you running your DVD decryption software in the background at ALL times when your ripping and burning.

Although I have only used DvdFab HD Decrypter twice in the last month, I agree that this process should work everytime out. Although I would add a step of taking the output from DvdFab & running it through FixVts before opening up in Dvd Shrink, where I would save as an ISO Image File or Hard Disc Folder, then burn manually with ImgBurn in either ISO Write Mode or Build Mode. You can use TY or Verbatim, (old stock if you can find it would be more consistent). The most important thing is to keep the programs you use up to date & don't have any decrypting programs running in the background while you are using another decrypting program, it's a conflict waiting to happen. By that I mean don't have something like AnyDvd running while you are using something like DvdFab.
