Hi All,

This is the first 'ask' Ive posted ...so, no sniggering!
If I back-up my HD media to a HD-xvid format can I buy a TV compatable hard drive and play them directly onto the tv?
There are 500gb storage drives that plug straigh into the TV.
This I hope would save my precious originals?
Also, I have a PS3 already, (Ive seached for a thread relating to all this but can only find bits and bobs)there are discussions relating to playing HD movies directly off the harddrive in the PS3.
Is this possible?
Sorry if the answer is already on the site, but this is my umpteenth search and my eyes are burning:)
Great site!!

Cheers

Ah,djkrishna I think you've outlined the problem
This is the problem..

I want to do this with as few leads as possible so :

1,if I can plug straight into the tv great ( but I think a long shot)

2, use the ps3 as an interface, dont want to reduce the life of the ps3 by constantly writing and deleting films to the hd.

3,Any other methods available other than playing on PC only or burning to a HD disc

There must be an easy way to get these back-ups onto my tv. Im not rich and dont really want to payout for a stand-along HD burner as I already have a player. The discs are a bit tatty from use and with all this technology there must be a concise solution......or is there? :)

Will post a solution if my searches turn anything up

Cheers

if u have a hd-dvr from ur local cable or sat provider, u might be able to hook up the external hard drive to it via usb or firewire. im not really sure because ive never tried it before. i remember reading about people that were wanting to transfer video from there dvr to the pc. they were saying to connect a external hard drive to the dvr, then fill up the dvr hard drive first, so that it will record to the external hard drive. then the dvr and pc can both read it. like i said before, ive never tried any of this myself.

if u have lcd tv
here how it works
u need hddvd-rom/bluray-rom on ur computer
u can get combo player for 300.00 dollars
ifu want only hddvd player then its best way to go for xbox 360 add on player
now we ll knew about how it install internal rom in computer
that left with xbox 360 add player
if u have vista it will recognise the rom without any sweat
third step will be rip the hddvd to harddrive. we can use dvdfab hd and/or anydvd to rip the puppies
here is the last and critical part
(BLAW BLAW BLAW ....Right)we all knew it
we need playback software to play the hd content
with cyber link powerdvd
now extrenal hd or internal hd we can hook up our cpu to lcd tv
by using lcd tv as a monitor
i think we can stream
what do you all guys say......

I think gamename is hitting the nail on the head. I appreciate krishnas comments but were getting 'double' hardware terratory and the main idea is to reduce the amount of'...hook appliance 'a' to appliance 'b' make sure appliace 'c' is running updated firmware' etc etc etc
Gamenames using existing hd player is great. Im sure as the 'concept' has been cast, there can be further reducing and finetunig till you get to the point where its virtually a 'plug and play' procedure.
Great food for thought,

who knows, we may be forumlising the next step in hd playback? :)

Thanks for all the replies,

Im still searching too.

Cheers
