Used Ps2 and HDD help please!

So I bought a used ps2, HDD and HDD adaptor off of ebay. They all work just fine but my problem is I do not have the installation disc for the HDD. So is there a way I can connect the HDD to my PC and then have someone I that does have the installation disc send me the software. Or if not is there another option. I cannot run the HDD on my ps2 until I can install the software. What do I do?

if it's the official 40gig hdd, then you must use the hdd disc.

if it's a normal hdd, then you can't use it as storage, unless you have the dms4 modchip.

it is an official sony 40 HDD. so I HAVE to have the installation disk?

yep. you need the installation disc. it enables the hdd, so it's viewable in the ps2 browser screen. it's the only way to make it viewable.
