I want to create a backup of my Halo3 and I managed to copy the files. What CD should I burn it on now? I know you need a dual layered CD that can fit the whole file.

I found a CD lying around my house that says "8GB Maxell DVD+R" on it. Would that work? Or should I just go but some new CDs?

you need to get some good quality dvd-dl, most people use verbs as they are one of the bests, but cost the most still. download imageburn, and set the laybreak correctly in the settings menu, cant remember what it is, just google it to find it, and then burn the .dvd file and if you ripped the game correctly, it should work just fine; assuming you have already flashed your 360s FW.

well, download the newest FW iextreme 1.4 i believe, and obtain a pci card thats is a via 6421 chipset, make your floppy disc or usb drive with all the appropriate files boot into dos enter the command prompts. then boot back into xp/vista make the hacked FW, reboot into dos, and rewrite the FW. the instructions will be in the FW files when you download it. hopefully that helps, as its the easiest way i can tell you have to do it without having you to do some searching on your own part.
