article published on 6 January, 2008
One of the few questions left unanswered by Warner Bros.'s announcement to go Blu-ray exclusive was whether the decision would affect the decisions of studios HBO and New Line, both of which are owned by Warner.
Variety however, is reporting that New Line has indeed moved exclusively to Blu-ray, following its parent company. The move means that only one New Line film ever made it to HD ... [ read the full article ]

That is good news for Blu-Ray enthusiasts IF THEY WOULD EVER RELEASE LORD OF THE (EXPLETIVE DELETED) RINGS!
*calms down*
But seriously, I am happy that they announced it at any rate.

Finally a winner is emerging. Now people don't have to chose which high definition player to buy if they want to watch a movie. And all this exclusivity bs is really annoying. If you want to watch Spider Man in HD you have to have blu-ray. If you want to watch the Bourne Ultimatum you have to have HD-DVD. The industry will never get anywhere that way. Just support one format and let me, the consumer, not worry about not being able to watch a movie because it's in a format that I cannot access. I don't care if HD-laserdisc is the new format, this squabble needs to end.

Personally I am very happy with the DVD format and have no need for either of these new formats! If I had to choose I would pick HD-DVD only because it is less DRM infected.

hmmmmmmmmmm i dont know about star wars. i think they will release that in 10 years after they remake it, add-take scenes and give an upgrade other than the resolution. i think thats what i heard rick mccallum say in an interview. tho he didnt mention anything of blu ray or hd dvd. so if the re releases of the past tell us anything is that theres like a 10 year period between them or something like that. they wont risk releasin it in either hd format without a strong installed base. it'l be pretty awsome if they release it in hd!

I'll get excited when I see a handful of Afterdawn users backing up their store bought Blu-ray movies to Bluray Verbatim media. I'll be waiting for that day.

nextgen & huie will be ere soon telling us all about it.
imho, i will never purchase a DRM-Ray title if it become the stronger format, i will download the lot and advise every person i know to do the same, as i am not being dictated what hardware i can use to watch media on. i have not downloaded a thing that is illegal since i was back at college but i'll be fuked if i'm going to "bend over and lube up" for the likes of sony and their MPAA/RIAA buddies using piracy to threaten my privacy with the phone home ability of Drm-Ray BD+!
SlySoft AnyDVD HD FTW: http://www.slysoft.com/en/
@ Chavo
many players including sony's own Sony BDP-S300 does not support BD-R media so you will never be playing copies or home movies on this hardware!
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=BDPS300
READ BELOW SONY PDF: Operating Instructions:
http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/DocsConnect/...ualid=99519&DL=
and lookup "This player can play the following discs and files" and then look at "Examples of discs that the player cannot play" and you will see at the top BD-REs/BD-Rs, neither will it play DVD-RW, DVD-R film backups with stripped css or restructuring or without region coding!

Your prob with BD is that you cant copy BD-Movies?That you cant crack the security lock?
If that makes BD a bad media then for you Zonda sucks cause you cant even change oil's to it.
What i know is every one that bought an HDDVD player say stupid thinks like that Cause the time to stick the players up to your M1cr0$0ft7 butts is getting closer and closer.
I dont like sony but, My enemy's, enemy is my friend, i hate MS.
I cant wait for the day that MS will have to release BD-360.

Because of the DRM restrictions. I'll upgrade to Blu-ray or HD-DVD when I see a guy selling them in the Home Depot parking lot at a good bargain.

I'd rather watch movies on VHS than buy a Blu-Ray player.
Well then again there is DVD...........
In the process of completely eliminating all my Sony product, packed away PS2 about to do the same to PSP.
Sony the company which makes people hate technology!

Well see now we know that all we needed was someone like Warner Bros to make a stance and everyone else fall into line behind them. Warner being probably the biggest movie studio there is will for sure decide the war for the rest of the studios as well.
