Hi All,
I a currently have a Technics SC-DV290 all in one system and while I am delighted with the performance of the system for DVD surround, I am finding it very limited in expansion capability now that I've upgraded to Sky HD and Blu-ray.
I would like to get some advice/opinions on the best way to upgrade to full surround while keeping any components I can as money is tight at the mo.
I am thinking of buying an A/V receiver such as the Sony STR-DG910 and using one of the input channels for the Technics(DVD,Tape Deck)system while wiring my existing speakers to the Amp/Receiver
I don't know if this would be the best/most cost effective option and I am hoping that some of the knowledgeble people here can sort me out with some advice??
Thanks in advance for any and all replies

The sony seems a good unit to upgrade to. Just make sure that you can provide the right audio connections from source to the amp for the HD Audio because i doubt a HDMI connection alone will carry the PCM bitstream audio aswell as the video.
Also you will need a good subwoofer, (spend as much as the amp)

Question, Why do you want to run the Technics through the AMP?
The Sony Receiver will have a built in tuner.
Your Blu-Ray source should also play DVD's right?
The only thing you loose is the tape deck. Don't tell me you still use tapes.!!

I want to keep the technics mainly for the dvd changer along with the fact that I hate to dump any good kit and you never know when you might need a tape deck!:):):)
Do you think I will have any issues with using my existing technics speakers with this amp?

I doubt it.
Most amps cater for 6 to 8 ohms rated speakers. Not sure what wattage the amp is (probably 100W x 6 at a guess).
If your speakers are not 100W + rated don't worry too much about it but watch the volume.
On some amps you can set a max volume at a certain db level to safe guard against an acident.
If I were you my main ambition would be to buy a powered sub for the dedidicated low frequency ouput on the amp. This will almost certainly be a pre-out connection (un-amplified) but check before you buy a sub so you know if you need a powered or passive sub.
You will make the most significant change to your listening experiance if you add a Sub to your set-up, especially when listening to digital surround in dloby 5.1 or DTS soundtracks.
