IS WinRAR 3.71 completely free or does it have a trial period?

WinRAR is shareware. Anyone may use it during a test period of 40 days. Following this test period, if you wish to continue to use WinRAR, you must register (and pay $29.00). (After 40 days an unregistered copy won't work).

If you want a free RAR archive unpacking program, there are a number out there. See here, scroll down the page to "External Links".

Using any of the "cracked" versions of WinRAR which are around on p2p etc is (a) illegal piracy and (b) pretty sure to get your PC infected with a trojan. For the information of anyone who is interested, RARlabs have never issued a "corporate edition", and the package thus titled contains a trojan.

There's no such thing as Corporate Edition of WinRAR... The so-called "Corporate" edition is just a re-packed Setup of WinRAR with an added "rarreg.key" file... To verify this, check the Authenticity signature of the Setup. The latest version should be signed by "RAR development". Obviously, the "Corporate" edition is not...

Also, I did some checking, it seems that some "Corporate editions" of WinRAR are packages with key generator programs ("keygens") which contain the trojan and release it silently when run. Some other versions may be OK. However, any "corporate edition" is a pirate edition, so two people on this thread have ID'd themselves as cracked software users...
