I couldn't find software to do this, I don't think.
I have movies converted to Xvid I can put on a DVD disc as data and play them. It seems software like Divx Author 5.1 can do that with menus but it has to convert the movies to do so.
Can I not put divx/xvid files and menus onto a disc without converting them again?, they've already been converted. I can see why it does it if it's because the movies and menus have to be integrated together somehow to work.
My understanding is that if the source movies are in DivX format, they are not re-encoded - but I don't know if it applies to XviD..
These 'Ultra DivX' features (menus, chapters, etc) are only available on an 'Ultra Divx' certified player.
You can't add menus as data, the menu files have to be part of a UDF file structure (like in DVD movies) or in a separate folder linked to MPEG video files for VCD/SVCD.
What I recommend is converting the videos to DVD and adding menus. It'll give you the same quality as you get on your PC as long as the source files have a decent bitrate and aren't too compressed, and they used a good quality codec.
I recommend using DVDFlick or VSO's ConvertXtoDVD. Both allow you to add menus, their pretty simple to use and give excellent results.
I see. I was tryin to find another way because I don't have enough free hard drive space to make the conversion, I don't think. Maybe I do actually, only have about 5gb free. I was gonna try convertxtodvd but I was goin for 6 movies on a 4.7gb disc. Each 700mb avi file I add expands to 2.5gb. Oh well. I just put the 6 files on a disc the way they are, my 360 shows a selection screen before it plays anything. And I downloaded dvd cover images and put them on the disc so if I can't remember what the movie is I can just pop up the pictures before playin a movie. That'll work for now.
You can put 6 AVI files on DVD mate. Only thing is they'll be compressed heavily and considering the fact their quite large you will get worse quality than you do on your PC, guaranteed.
6 full-length movies onto one DVD is stretching it a bit too far mate, I'd stick with 2-3 max, otherwise you can't expect decent results. At least try getting your hands on some Dual Layer DVDs and burning them to that, that way you'll get much better quality, and they'll all fit onto one disc still.
Did you try DVDFlick? Because it allows you to manually set the bitrate of each file, so you can tweak around the settings to squeeze to maximum amount of quality possible on your DVD.
I put the 6 movies on the dvd just as they are as .avi files(6X700mb). I don't decompress or convert them to dvd format, since the 360 can now play .avi files as they are. I only use convertxtodvd for 1 movie to dvd. I'll check out dvdflick though. Thanks for the info.
