If its a new copy, WB may have done something new.
When I get Media that gives me "CRC" error exactly where the VOB files start, I have to use DVD43. DVD43 is just like AnyDVD except it does not need to be cracked, and, they are still making it.
Just Google DVD43... version 4.0 got me a copy of POTC-AWE.

It is the old version, but right around 51%, I get a cyclic error. The disc is not scratched or dirty either. I used decrypter as well and no Vista. Worst OS ever.
I will try DVD43

Try defragging your hard drive... And read this thread:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/612016
Before you do anything drastic... Are you using Ripit4me, the great front-end for DVD Decryptor?\
1) Open decrypter and go to Preferences and set all the prefs back to Default.
2) Use these settings for Ripit:
"Bypass Annoying PGCs,"Remove unreferenced video,"
And for Copy IFOs make sure you have selected "Use DVD Decryptor"
Try it again, and if it fails post the log: Mark the place on the DVD where it fails to copy. Sounds like it is failing to read the Layer Break on the DVD... You say 51% is where it occurs?
You know how DVD Shrink shows the preview? Try to mark exactly where the moovie is where the error occurs... And stick the DVD in your regular DVD player and run it up to that same spot... Watch carefully and see if the image jumps or the sound cracks.
Any artifact, even a small pop, might indicate a bad layer break.
Also: Post your Burner info, who made it, use Everest to pull up the info on it, and see if you can find a Firmware Update.
I have noticed that my Lite-On 20x IDE burner, fails on the exact date the new Firmware gets released. This has happened twice, both on the exact days new Firmware was released.
That is a whole other issue though, for now, Defrag your HD, do a full Surface Scan of your storage drive, and try again.
If I'm not back to check it out, most of the folks here who have been here for a long time will help you out.
I'll check back later this afternoon.

What the? If they arent making it why need a crack? Anyway AnyDVD gets updates to new movies every other week so that means they are still around. So strong in fact they nearly doubled their price at the beginning of the year and people still buy it. Actually XweAponX you are about the only person that said anything positive about that DVD43 program in the 2 years I've been reading and contributing posts. I'm glad you've had luck but you must be one of the few.

I am a noob with DVDFAB. I have the free version, but it rips vob files into 1 gig chunks. Kind of frustrating.

Even if it is frustrating for you to have the 1 gigabyte chunks, I would HIGHLY recommend that you back up this disc using DVDFab. It is going to give you the least amount of trouble. I have an old copy that I backed up (on DVDDecrypter), so I took the (origianl) original (bought in 2002 or whenever the first day the disc was available for purchase) from my wall of dvd's and I threw it in to see what would happen... it copied 100% perfect with no audio/menu/video errors.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Ah yes, and I also suggest (to everyone who doesn't already own a copy) to purchase ANYDVD+CloneDVD2 and or DVDFabPlatinum4 (depending your preference). Both are wonderful programs with updates coming out all the time.

It's frustrating because I can't get Shrink to combine all the vob files into 1.

No. Shrink works with every other title. The only other problem I have had with Shrink is Thundercats. Fo some reason, it won't rip the full dvd. After ripping it, and going through videora, only 23 minutes is actually ripped from the dvd. I gave up on Thundercats.

I will give HP a try again when I get home from work. I moved most of my music and videos to my external, then did 2 defrags. We'll see if this helps. Thanks again, everyone, for your help.

Are these files in a Video_TS folder, or do they just get spread out on your desktop? what target or folder do you rip to?
I havent seen any links to graphic instructions so I will link some.

Post back if there are any problems.
EDIT: You dont have to use the re-author or the start/ stop frames settings on Shrink like the guides show, they are just very good at putting pictures with words.

They are in a videoTS file. I tried browsing through to see if I can disable that function (much like you can in Shrink) but to no avail. Thats why I haven't used Fab all that much.

I haven't needed to use FAB in a long time, so I'm going by the pictures in the guides. If all you are doing is picking the Video_TS folder instead of opening it and grabbing all the files separately you should be fine.

Which season of thundercats? I backed up season one well over a year ago with shrink... was it all six discs or a specific disc?

Season 1 disc one. For some reason, when I back up the entire first disc, it only rips the first episode. side note: I use a program titled Videora to convert my movies to iPod format, and yes only the movies I own (which is an extensive collection since I used to work at Best Buy). I know it's not a videora error because I tried RI4M, and DVDdecrypter by itself and get the same error, as well as downloaded another mp4 converter software. I tried doing the episodes individually and it will only rip the first 4 seconds. I am frustrated with T-Cats, but I'm going to try the conversion with Handbrake on a Mac, whenever I can get one freed up at work.
About to try Harry Potter now. I did another defrag since I deleted some more items from my computer. I will post again in a few minutes on the successes/ failures.

I'm not that familiar with Fab. Once Fab rips, I try to open it with shrink and I don't get a full vob, rather they are split up into 5-6 different files. I don't know how to combine them into one larger file. I guess it helps if I say I am not trying to make copies of dvd's, but rather transfer the movies to my ipod. I hope I am making more sense now.

If using specifically for Ipod, did you backup the main movie only of the original disc? Did you backup the entire disc?

If you're talking about FAB, I tried both ways. It really shouldn't matter either way, since Shrink will extract just the movie itself.

If you are putting the movie onto your ipod... do the movie only. Take shrink out of the picture when it comes to your ipod.
I would suggest getting yourself a copy of cucusoft video converter. I personally don't use anything besides this program to get my movies onto my ipod (usually only for long drives/flights). You can convert basically any file to ipod/any other imaginable format). Honestly I believe this is the best program to use because of it's blazing fast speed and ease of use (been using it for around 2+ years).
Hope that helps.
Cheers!
