Hiya, I've trawled through many posts which looked like they may be able to help me and I'm left with a couple of questions which I'd appreciate someone taking a quick look at.

I have a pal wii and I am about to get the d2ckey chip put in it. I will only be playing pal backups.

Now to the questions:

If I update my wii online before putting any new pal backup in will this automatically stop any update running from the dvd because my wii is already fully up-to-date?

Can i play ANY pal game with this chip (after doing an online update)? (i've heard about problems with super mario games but these either seem to be with different chips or when different regions may be involved.)

Taking into account the last 2 questions can anyone see if i could possibly hit any problems with a properly fitted d2ckey chip on a pal wii which only plays pal backups (after the online update has been done prior to playing the backup for the first time)?

Thanks in advance for your help!

d2ckey doesnt require any updating to play super mario galaxy so u will be fine after getting chip fitted

if u know for sure the disc IS PAL and your wii IS PAL then it dont matter about any updates off the disc as they will update in Pal and will be fine

however good practice would be to do as i do and update 1st prior to trying a new game for the 1st time just in case someone has mislabled a release

(pjb1979) i agree with (Thinone).

I have a PAL(UK) wii with a D2cKey chip.
To be sure i have always updated my system to the latest firmware via the internet and have also accepted updates from my PAL backups.
To find out what region game you have you can use Wii BrickBlocker and it will confirm which region game you have.
All the downloaded (PAL) backups i have used have been burnt on verbatim DVD-R and DVD+R at 4X speed using nero 7. All my PAL games have worked flawlessly and on occassions have updated my system safely as i was sure they were PAL games.

With NTSC games i have only patched the isos with Regionfrii from NTSC to PAL and then played them. They have never asked to update my system and i never use Brick Blocker as sometimes it makes the games un-useable.

Go to the Wii compatibility list to find out which games work and which do not before downloading as sometimes it can be a waste of time.
Good luck.

Hi,
I have read lots of threads on this subject on lots of sites including this one and have only succeded in totally confusing myself!

Could I please ask for final confirmation on a couple of things before I try them, and hopefully do not brick my Wii console.

I have a PAL Wii console which has a D2CKEY modchip in it. I am trying to play a backed up copy of Super Mario Galaxy. (I am not sure if it is PAL or NTSC). Am I correct in saying that I should update my Wii console (which currently has version 3.0) from the internet before playing the game? Is this safe? Will it stop me from playing other backed up games?

As it stands, when I put the game in, it asks me to update, it which I have not done. Am I correct in saying, that providing the game is PAL, which is the same as my console, then it is always perfectly safe to accept the disk update? This won't brick my console?

I am very nervous about trying any of these suggestions in case it stops the console from playing backed up games. So as said, could I please ask for this last clarification on my above points.

Thanks.

Thanks for your full answer.

I have updated my console, online, to version 3.2
I have put the Super Mario Galaxy (PAL) disk in and it has worked without asking me to update.

Success!!!

Thank you.
