The Association told a jam packed room of reporters and fans that roughly 3.5 million Blu-ray players had been sold to customers so far, with 3 million of those being Sony PlayStation 3 consoles. ... [ read the full article ]

Same here.

At first, this may sound like some ridiculous PR spinning, but if you think about it, they are talking like Blu-ray will become the new media standard (knocking out SDVD). If that does happen then this does seem like a likely scenario.

MAYBE if they market it right, and lower the prices to SDVD cost then i can see BD eventually being an option to most consumers. since most studios are now BD they will likely place those ads in the SDVD when you first play them, i just dont get why they put those ads on HD DVD and BD, like.."omj i had no idea let me run out and get that!"

Yay, we get to deal with ads on our DVDs telling us they're crap now. Maybe I couldn't give a flying rats ass about HD in its current form... I'm not going to shell out big bucks for 1080p, but I'm not going to compromise for something 720p or 1080/720i, so I'm sitting on my SD CRT and DVD player until they die. And as much as Microsoft sucks (ethically at least), I think Gates has hit the nail on the head in not caring about the "war", downloads are going to be where everything is heading, so why waste money on all this hardware with such a limited shelf life...

Lower the prices and remove the DRM then I'll be one of the 10 million Blu-ray users in 08.

Everyone keeps saying that hd downloads are the future, but what I don't get is after you download them to your PC, or HD box or whatever, what do you do with them? Obviously watch them, but how would you take them to a friends house? Burn them to a BD disc? It doesn't make any sense to do that while BD discs and burners are so expensive and when you could just buy the movie on a Blu-Ray disc to begin with. Someone enlighten me here.
